Now that our relegation from the Premier League is all but confirmed, we need to be planning for next season and our assault on the Championship, sooner rather than later. So who would you like to take up the Manager's position ? (Realistic targets please) As CEO should McNally be held accountable for the board's failings and offer his resignation ? (Just putting it out there) I think we should avoid going down the Ex player route i.e. Malky, journeymen i.e. Colin and go after a young, hungry, ambitious type. Whether that is British or Foreign makes no odds IMO. I do have a gut feeling though that we may see Adams still in charge next term at least for the first 8 - 10 games, just a hunch as he would appear to be the cheapest option although that would be a very dangerous route for the club to take. As for McNally, well he really has been a bit of a knob with THAT radio interview, his infamous "relegation would be worse than death" speech and his "we won't be relegated" comment. However, his appointment of Lambert and his astute financial brain have put our club on on a secure footing hopefully for many years to come regardless of what level we are playing at. On the flipside, his appointment of Hughton and the failure to dismiss him far sooner has cost us our top flight status. That is not an opinion held only by me, but also by many City fans. Can we trust this man to get it right next time, will he find another Lambert? Look, we all make mistakes and although McNally made the mother of all **** ups keeping faith with Hughton I reckon he will have learnt a harsh lesson and I trust him to make the right appointment next time. Having read other forums and Twitter there are more than a few that think he should call it a day. Discuss OTBC ... CTI
I have absolutely no idea who should be given the managers position, and have no serious contenders in mind other than Uwe Rosler, but now I am beginning to sound like a broken record. As for DM, I am not really sure what to make of him and some of his 'antics' this season. There were certainly some ridiculous noises (in hind-sight) from the board this season, and two equally ridiculous managerial decisions made. Maybe he is losing the plot, really not sure.
Although he is not to everyone's taste, I would go for Neil Lennon - I think he would like to prove himself in English football and a club like Norwich would be a great opportunity. Relative to other clubs in the championship we are in a very position, financially and with the squad, backroom facilities, youth team etc. He would get the chance to develop the team without the glare of the PL and then be ready to take the club forward once (if) promotion was achieved. as for DM, benefits far outweigh the negatives- simples
A good call, but would he leave a massive club like Celtic to come to us ? The fact that Celtic play in a 'pub league' could be a deciding factor for him though.
Not going to have a say on the new manager but as for McNally I don't understand where this criticism comes from. In your opinion he should have jettisoned Hughton sooner but I think we should have persevered with him - he was never going to please all the fans so is inevitably going to be in for stick but remember where we were without him. Ludicrous to call for him to go.
I think Lennon would be interested if we were in the Premier League but I can't see him leaving Celtic to manage us in the Championship. He may as well bide his time and wait for another Premier League to come calling. Someone will take a punt eventually.
Regarding McNally how do we know that he didn't want Hughton gone long before It happened? His isn't the only voice and on a matter as important as sacking the manager I wold presume that it would take at the very least a majority vote of board members.
I think the issue Lennon has is that unless he goes into the championship for a bit, he's unlikely to get a Prem job. At Celtic he's not going to want to do half a season (or more) of good work in the league and Europe, then let someone else take the spoils at the end by jumping into the Premier league relegation battle. He'd have little time or money to mould a squad, and relegation would probably get him sacked, jeopardising his career. Equally, what Prem team will bring him in during the summer? Promoted teams stick with who brought them up, and teams that just about survive normally give their man a bit longer, and he's not big enough a name for a top half team. So he's in a bit of a dilemma. If he joins a relegated club, then the big changes in playing staff that come with relegation give him a chance to shape a squad as he wants, and at a reasonably financially stable club like ourselves he should be able to build a squad capable of challenging. Our board would probably give him 2 or 3 attempts at getting us promoted too before making a change. Probably just me, but I can definitely see some logic in him joining us.
I think this was the point I was trying to make. We could be seen as a great opportunity, develop his team in PL, get some big bucks on promotion to improve the squad and then show what he can do with a bottom half club.
I have stated several times that I am not a Lennon fan, but one positive might be that he could persuade Snoddy to stay!
Sorry KIO, I didn't make it clear that wasn't directed at you because I know you weren't trying to say that. But I have seen others say it.
I think any of the following could do a job in the championship: Eddie Howe Uwe Rosler (If Wigan don't go up) For me I just hope we pick someone that gets the fans united again and gets us looking as if we may score once in a while.
personally, I couldn't care less if Snodgrass goes- he is too selfish and unbalances the team, his distribution is often poorer than Redmond's but for very different reasons.
Have to agree Longsight - I think he is guilty of hanging on to the ball for too long and then falling over and hoping for a free kick. Not sure who I would want as manager, but NOT Malky please!!! McNally should stay - it wasn't his fault that the team had some 'kamikaze' moments in defending against West Brom and Fulham. For those fans who want him out (and I don't believe there are many - we all make mistakes and wish we could retract things we have said!!!!).
Doesn't Eddie Howe come with some 'baggage' though? Isn't that why it didn't work out for him the first time he left Bournemouth?
Well 'our Neeyul' has just tactically out thought the 'special one' so I suppose he must now be in with a real shout of keeping the job ??
