Six Under-21s released by QPR and set to leave Loftus Road this summer SIX members of QPRâs Under-21s will not be offered new deals this summer. Dylan Carreiro, David Fitzpatrick, Sam Magri, Emmanuel Monthe, Mo Shariff and Peter Skapetis will all leave Loftus Road at the end of the season. All six played a part in Steve Gallen's side's rise to the Professional Development League Two play-off final, where Rangers came runners-up after a 1-0 defeat to Crewe Alexandra. Meanwhile, four from Paul Furlongâs Under-18s squad â Ben Beckles, Will Page, Mark Smith and Ryan Young â have also been released. The club would like to thank them all for their commitment to QPR and extend our best wishes for their future careers. Find out which young R's have been offered new deals on www.qpr.co.uk tomorrow. http://www.qpr.co.uk/news/article/040514-qpr-under-21s-released-1526851.aspx Skapetis and Carreiro we knew about, but Sam Magri and Mo Shariff surprise me.
Had you seen much of him then? Shariff came on against Swindon in the League Cup and, from my aging memory, looked lively. I'd not seen Magri play, but there was quite a song and dance when we signed him from Portsmouth. As you say, it is disappointing, but I guess none of them kicked on enough.
I saw him in last seasons play off final against Huddersfield at Loftus Road, big lad, a "large unit" and mobile for his size. I was quite impressed. Also surprised we've let Sharif go. Id like to know the ins and outs behind the decision making. Is it because they've not progressed, or havent they progressed because of lack of opportunity. The lack of a proper reserve team doesnt help either.
I think Steve Gallen has done a fantastic job with the youth and development squad. So he will have had a lot to say about who stays and goes. I think we can back his judgement on this one. Remove the weaker areas and strengthen will be the mantra I'm sure.
One of the things that came out of the fans' forum on Thursday was that (copying from Clive's report in regard to Peter Skepatis) "TF said every single player has been evaluated by the technical committee which didn’t feel that Peter was a player QPR wanted to keep. He said: “We will make mistakes but we have to trust the people we have there.” Steve Gallen will undoubtedly be a very important part of that committee, but, just to play devil's advocate, what makes you say he has done a fantastic job? No players have broken into the first team, the best most can manage is to play on loan at a lower level.
