I dunno, Harper kept us in the match v Fulham before we went down the other end and equalised. I'd still prefer McGregor in the goal for the cup final. I just think our defence is prone to errors, as are most defences of teams down the bottom of the league. Everyone has an off day.
I thought exactly the same a couple of weeks ago. Made a great save against Fulham but the defence certainly don't look as steady with him in goal. Mcgregor for the cup final if he is fit.
Harper has pulled off a couple of good saves since he's been in the first team, but he makes too many errors (not too sure if age has now caught up with him) and another keeper is really needed to push McGregor for the first team spot
Harper lacks agility and dives late on shots into the corner. I don't think its coincidence that our defence has been poor since McG was injured. I'd be tempted to put Jakupovich in against Man U. Just hope McGregor is fit to go at Wembley.
That would be a big call & probably do more damage than good for SH's confidence. Also I don't think Jak will be here next season so Ox will be 3rd choice I would guess, I think he got a new contract at some point too. I don't understand why Ox isn't on the bench at the moment either if that's the case.
I am not as confident with Harper in goal these days, and I don't think the back four have the same confidence in Harper as they do with McGregor. I wouldn't say they panic, just they don't have the same faith in him as with McGregor.
Harps is exactly what he is, a good number 2! Hopefully he'll stop the wearing the lead boots he wore at Villa Park and move off his goal line! For Villa's second goal the ball was in the air for so long in the six yard box yet still he didn't come and clear, even though the 'traffic' ahead of him was only a couple of players.
Agreed, everyone seems to be banging on about how good Harper has been, but he's been nothing spectacular in my mind. He's made a few decent saves, sure, but he's also let in a couple that someone like Greegsy would have saved. Defence doesn't seem as comfortable with him either which doesn't help, despite how many games he has played this season which is a bit odd. Would definitely like us to go in for another keeper. Oxley should go to a Championship club on loan next season if it can be managed and see how he progresses from there.
I think the difference is that Harper has less command of his area than McGregor. Villas goal from the corner wouldn't have happened with McGregor in goal, and probably the Weiman header too.
