We seem a lot more solid with him at right back and his way of playing the game is great. Occasionally a stray pass but a lot of the time he uses it well. He will only get better, he was ridiculed at the arsenal game yet Gus has persisted with him and it's paid rewards. Could vergini to right back be the reason for our turn around.....
I think it takes a brave manager and player the keep going after the stick he got. Wonder if any pundits will eat their word over him?
Points have come our way. But I think that's more to do with the better formation we are playing (instead of 5 at the back) and colback and cattermole instead of Bridcutt and ki... Vergini got beaten time after time today, and isn't better than phil Bardsley IMO.. Of course I'll be told I'm wrong, because vergini is part of a winning team, but anyone with a footballing brain will see vergini's positioning and the ease at which he gets beat is very poor at times... I think he needs to beef up a bit for this league. And I'm not writing him off completely for the future.
I think he is streets ahead of bardsley going forward. He does lack pace but no more so than Alonso. Would you recall bardsley over vergini?
That's the beauty of slipping him at fullback in a confident team, there's nowhere to hide at CB, playing fullback has allowed him to get that games time without as much risk as playing him in the middle. I think it's been good for him and he's done well, however, like you suggested he ain't no fullback and I expect him to be playing CB when he does play next season. He's not better than Bardo and quite right, he's a centre back, nobody does it better than player in the natural position. Still think we can do better than bardo though.
He is also streets ahead defending, Bardsley is all heart, and I admire his commitment he but often gets caught on the wrong side of his man, Vergini looks a natural right back in the last few games.
