Head coach delighted with United triumph.

Gus Poyet enjoyed a very happy afternoon in the north west after watching his Sunderland side clinch a crucial three points in the Barclays Premier League and in doing so end a 46-year winless league run at Old Trafford.

After the game, a delighted head coach reflected on what he thought was a bizarre match:

“It was a very strange game,” Poyet told SAFSee after the final whistle. “In the beginning it was very flat and had a slow pace, this gave us the chance to pass the ball and get forward.

Sebastian Larsson struck on the half hour mark against Manchester United earn the Black Cats victory and maintain their hold onto 17th place in the league.

“Seb [Larsson] has been looking for that goal for a few weeks,” Poyet continued. “He can finish very well, he’s got a special right foot and what a way to get back on the score sheet, with the winning goal at Old Trafford.”

Sunderland then absorbed 60 minutes of United pressure to hold onto that lead and run out victorious, something the Uruguayan was pleased with:

“We defended magnificently after taking the lead. Every player put their body on the line and we had more chances after that and passed the ball around very well.

“We knew that we were capable of getting a result, and to go and get a first league win at Old Trafford is even better.”

Poyet concluded: “We now know that one more win, in front of our fans at a packed out Stadium of Light will be enough for us and then we can celebrate together.

“I’m immensely proud of the team; now I just want us to finish the job and get over the line - that would be a very special moment for me, the players, the fans and the club.”

`We knew there was a good team in there, it just took us a while to find it` - brilliant.
