OK folks, that's us signed Benyon, Donnelly, Halls, Grant, Harding and possibly Tunnicliffe and Wilson. Do we think that's our business finished in the transfer market now? If it is, I'm well pleased we've done this much so far - will give the players good time to blend together, unlike our last ill-fated League 1 campaign. If that is our business finished, then let's have a prediction from you. I think we're going to finish comfortably in mid table - there's not many to fear there, unlike last time. We're potentially as big as at least half the sides in this division this season, and we'll also have derby games to enjoy where the result can go either way and the form book goes out of the window. I don't fear Sheff Utd or Weds, they're big clubs but they're not as skillful as Leeds were a couple of seasons ago. And we're playing good football with a good bunch of players... although on paper we did 'scrape' to automatic promotion, we are by no means anything like the team that last went up that limped through the division from CHristmas onwards last time. I'm feeling positive and I think we could possibly get a top half finish - however I will be more than happy with not going down this season. Up the blues!
Morning Jock. Who is Wilson? I missed that one. Certainly more hopeful than last time. Not only a better team but higher morale. I think we'll have 7 or 8 below us at the end. Anything else is a bonus. Looking forward to a good season.
Morning Ron! Bristol City youth academy player - not a major coup but one for the future I think, although not sure - nothing official yet either but he's been saying he's signing at the beginning of July on Twitter. Not 100% yet but likely i think. The drones have been whinging about it (Shock horror) on the Gasroom. Yeah, I feel the same way as you Ron, feeling good about nxt season!
I think with the squad we've assembled mid table is a good shout but with another late run playing chokers like franchise at home Wednesday and Charlton away a play off place is not beyond us
I think we've seen some useful additions to the squad that got us promoted. We should remember that PT team in League One lost a lot of games 1- 0 so we weren't too far off even then. I seem to recall Leeds won with a wonder goal from Becchio, but WW had matched them for most of the game. Mid-table would do, but I would not be surprised if GW and the team spirit get us knocking on the play-off door.
Somewhere between 10th and 12th would be my guess. Far more confident this time around than under PT.
Afternoon Jock, long time no see, been anywhere nice? I reckon we'll finish mid table with the squad we have. Although THIS could be of interest....... http://www.thisisexeter.co.uk/20-goal-striker-likely-leave-Grecians/story-12806999-detail/story.html Cureton is exactly the kind of striker I think we could do with, experienced, proven and available! Not sure we can afford him although Exeter are more skint that we are I reckon. I think we could do with another defender (Kozluk was mentioned) and poss another winger but who am I to question the Wadfather. In Waddock we trust
another striker? surely we have enough already. I thought we were going to sign gosney (left winger) from afc totton, but that one has gone extremely quiet
Went to Portugal Devonblue, this bloke called Andre Villas-Boas wanted my advice on something so popped out to help him out Some would call Cureton 'experienced', others would call him a 'journeyman', and others might call him 'ancient', but whatever, he did do well at Exeter this season. I notice however he's been linked with Bristol Rovers, and that's where he found his fame and I do believe he's from there so it would probably be a no-brainer for him to go anywhere else (unless he's tempted by cash). I don't think we need another striker - I think a defender could be nice though. But even if we don't have anyone else sign, I have utmost faith in Waddock. He's doing the right thing.
I like the positive comments about where we'll finish next season. I'm definitely more optimistic than the last time in league 1 but will still settle for 5th bottom if offered it now. I think we need another centre back and maybe a winger, but I'm pretty pleased with how the squad is shaping up.
Wouldn't it be great to have two wingers that terrified defences. Always exciting and always in with a chance of scoring against any opposition.
My preference would be another centreback, as I reckon defence will be a priority next season, and see how we go with the forward players we have who I think can do a job. If things are not firing, save some money for January. Having said that...I know nowt about football.
