This piece has been posted on NUFC.com this morning.

It makes sense and asks that we don't turn on each other because of different opinions about action taken

To turn against each other would really be bad and give the red tops even more to slate us for.
    ____________________________________________________________________________

The build up to Saturday's final home game has been overshadowed by talk of walk-out protests by fans unhappy with the current state of affairs at SJP.

Walk-out suggestions circulated around the away end during Monday's sixth successive defeat, spreading via social media and resulting in some pledges to leave the Cardiff game on 60 minutes - regardless of the score.

Our reporting of this gathered publicity from national and local news outlets; supporter groups and fanzines since advocating their own walk-out plan on 69 minutes - to highlight the fact our last trophy success was in 1969.

As was the case when boycotts, marches and other fan actions have been called for, opinion is widely polarised regarding the walk-out and the reactions to it we've received reinforce a "50,000 fans, 50,000 stories" line.

For every fan outraged about the club's lack of ambition and motivated to give a public vote of no confidence, there are those who choose not to leave early - be it through loyalty, laziness, stoicism or stupidity.

The desire to send a message of discontent is evident - but it's important to highlight that this isn't about our lack of "success", be it silverware or qualifying for Europe.

In our eyes, it's a withdrawal of support and goodwill from fans aghast at seeing a long-standing commitment to the club repaid by a declared policy of non-competitiveness.

Many of these are people who don't want to join protest groups or man the barricades, but who feel motivated to make a public expression of their discontentment.

We've never sought to do anything other than inflict our own jaundiced views on you via this website, certainly not act as self-appointed spokesmen for the Geordie Nation. That's why TV/radio interview requests in recent days were refused - as usual.

For those who have asked though: regardless of the score, we'll not be leaving before full time and for us to urge others to do that would be hypocritical.

We respect the views of those who feel motivated to leave early, be it on 27 minutes (last title), 55 minutes (last domestic cup) or 0 minutes - that latter category belonging to those who have already stopped going.

What we would urge though is that those with differing viewpoints don't seek to intimidate each other. Setting fan against fan won't help anyone's cause, while interruptions to the game would only give our numerous critics - and the footballing authorities - ammunition.

Stay, go or don't come at all - it's your call, not ours. If reading this helps you decide one way or the other, then we've achieved our objective.

People should just respect each others opinion.

If you stay away or go and walk out - You're not fickle, you're no less of a fan than someone who stays the full 90 minutes.

What this week has shown is that there are a lot of people out there who think of themselves as 'super' fans and they think they are better than those who are thinking of joining in the protest. We're all the same in terms of our feelings about NUFC at the end of the day. Whatever anyone decides to do - fair play.

Hopefully there won't be any hassle between fans.

It works two ways with the 'super fans' opinion, it's happening from both those that intend staying and those going.

It should be peaceful whatever happens. Unfortunately, there are always idiots so hopefully they will be in the minority.

I agree - Both sides are guilty.

    This 100%

We are all fans and all entitled to our own opinions and actions. If any turn on each other then we have already lost.
