This is featured ion BBC Sport Bristol City FC page. Why? It is nothing to do with our Football Club. I suppose it is another air brained stunt by "Red Trousers".
I'm okay with some roads being closed for fun things like this. What ****s me off is that Fergie will be on the TV spouting nonsense about how a water slide is so much better than a car. I tried cycling into the centre for a few years and I've been knocked over three times. Anyone that I know who has cycled to work has fallen off. It's just one of those things that is guaranteed to happen, and eventually you decide that enough is enough and you get back in your car. I'd love to get the bus in instead, but it's cheaper to drive. I've been around the centre nearly each time the roads have closed for those silly events, and while they appeal to a few younger people a lot of people simply have **** to do and don't want to sit around in the road. I quite liked Fergie when he came into power, and I was under the impression that he would do a lot to help cyclists. All he has done is alienate people with silly stunts and spread propaganda about motorists. The "No confidence in George Ferguson" petition has 2,000 signatures, and will probably get a number more before it is closed.
I personally like the Streets free day its only a few streets and its only one a month. Bristol, has to the best of knowledge, the worse pollution levels in the country. Just think of all OUR young adults breathing in all that CO2.
Strange that 90,000 applied for approx 400 places and one of the BBC's Golden local News girls and one of the Local ITV weather presenters gets a chance to slide down the slope
Closing a few roads once a month is just a gimmick, if gf had some balls he'd close all roads in centre to Private vehicles, double the amount of buses then ppl would walk, cycle or public transport
after closing park street for hours for a crap water slide maybe we can get west street closed from 12-3 for the Three Lions Flag Day
