Big problem is that what started as a thread laughing at a bloke getting fined and banned for being racist turned into a "As white people, we have it so hard" and the usual slating of political correctness. It's not about being thick, it's about not wanting to converse with people who post ****e like we've had the last few days. A lot of people want to talk Sunderland with Sunderland supporters they don't need the hassle. We've had threads such as "Why are there not more posters" or "Why are members reading and not posting" and quite a few have said the above is a problem. I can't really be arsed posting too much at the moment as a result of being told to pull a bloke dick after being labelled anti white. I'm ****ing white for gods sake.
What was so funny about that thread is that it's white owners who are going to dump another white owner to protect their gobs of cash. Everyone hates the prick they're getting rid of, but if you say so, you're an anti-white politically correct girly man. I usually don't get angry on this board, but the stupidity of this one did me in.
To be fair mate, I wouldn't blame you for deleting those comments, Bill knew he was crossing the line, but when threads that are locked and deleted it ****s on everybody, often other people are having separate conversations. On the off topic matter, have you been on General Chat? It's an aquired taste who 90% of folk won't enjoy. Folk like to discuss other things apart from football with people they get on with on here, people they consider friends you know what I mean. You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time” but in light of the spirit of the board (comment create debate freely) it's obvious this is the wrong board anyway for a lot of these people. Had my say, I'll but out now.
Fair enough. I'd suggest that people who like to talk race and the state should look to general chat or specialised forums because it just ends in a bitch fit on here. You're right mate. If people could be trusted to just stay quiet once they've had their wrist slapped for crossing the line, there'd be no problem but they can't. So steps need to be taken to shut them the **** up.
Back to the OPs question, I just think forums are a dieing breed in general its all Facebook and twitter these days. Which is surprising as forums are pretty much anonymous, Facebook is anything but.
Perfect example of why I do not post,I have lost interest, as any decent thread gets hi jacked, the point gets lost and then we end up discussing some drama queen who does not realise the offence he causes as the thread that it should be discussed on has been locked. Alternatively, some Monty Pyhton wannabe starts making "humourous" comments and their mafia/old boys network join in and the point of the thread is lost. And then there is the "I'm a better supporter than yough" faction who accuses anyone and everyone of not being as good a supporter as them and then denies he means anyone in particular. I'm afraid few people on here are as funny or as clever as they think they are - emperors new clothes perhaps. Of course I;m just a miserable cnut..........and its all my own fault........an I;m in the wrong
Correct. Some when not agreeing with the discussion revert to the moral high ground & cry wolf at any sight of colorful language by playing the man & not the ball. Opinions do count & just because another person reads a different newspaper, votes for another political party or worships another God so be it, but to start on one for doing so, that's an incredibly dozy thing to do. Surely listening to others helps us to grow & understand that our opinions on things might have been formed by less than correct information or that there is a better way of doing or accessing something which might lead to us changing them. If you don't want to discuss, don't click the thread!
But... The thread in question was started by a mod and it was to do with racism in the NBA and how they threw the book at the clippers owner (in comparison to how UEFA/FIFA handles it). It was OT for Sunderland, but it was still relevant to football and sport in general. If it had stayed within the boundaries of racism in sport, I'm sure it would still be open, but it went in another direction. My point is though, it was OT, but it was something most fans of sport might have wanted to contribute too, so they clicked on it, and seen it had changed track, so maybe reported it. It wasn't me, I never report anything, but to say members should not click on this thread as it was OT doesn't really tell the whole story IMHO.
I loved coming on this forum (was Sandymackem). But too many strings were hijacked, as SG said, and the anti this anti that, in the end pissed me off. As Smug pointed out on another thread, regular posters have been disappearing. I'm one of them. I still keep an eye on here coz I love the banter and speculation of up-coming games, especially so coming up to the last few games. But too many good discussions on SAFC end up as so much banal ****e. I said I was leaving because of the anti-Muslim crap spouted on here. My wife is Muslim and it got to point where enough was enough. I was told I was in the wrong after my last post for not arguing my corner (I didn't respond) and that's fair enough, it's all about view points. I'm not even sure how to end this post. I've had a few beers. I'd love to keep posting here if it's just about SAFC, but I doubt that will happen. And I'm sure I will probably be criticised for saying this.
I started the thread, and maybe should have put OT, but no way in hell would that have stopped it degenerating. I think, frankly, we need to toughen up the modding, I'd rather lose a couple who spit dummies than a stack of posters who feel that they are forced out, or are offended by what frankly on this board is a tiny minority, often just one person. I want, we all want, as many SAFC fans on here, we want them to feel valued and relevant, and whatever it takes to get that I'd suggest the 5 of us need to make happen.
lightening the mood, saying that i've just spent the last few days in glasgow and i'm knackered and pished exactly
