Dear Michael... Liverpool didn't actually want you back...... and we regret you joining us too by the way....

    http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...ol-after-Real-Madrid-not-Man-Utd-or-Newcastle

FORMER Liverpool forward Michael Owen has said his only regret about his time with Real Madrid was that he didn't go straight back to the Reds after his year in Spain.

Instead, Owen joined Newcastle where he made 71 appearances in an injury-ravaged four years.

He then surprised everyone by joining Manchester United, where he stayed for three seasons before moving to Stoke.

But Owen wishes he could have rejoined Liverpool instead of moving to Newcastle.

Owen told Sportlobster: "It was a season [at Real Madrid] I will never forget and a great experience both on and off the field.

"To wear the famous white kit, strut my stuff in an iconic stadium and share the pitch with the likes of Luis Figo, Ronaldo, David Beckham, Raul, Roberto Carlos and Zidane was the stuff of dreams."

"The only drawback from my decision to head to Madrid was, after a year in Spain, I didn't manage to rejoin my boyhood team, Liverpool.

"But having played at the Bernabeu alongside some of the greats of the game, I suppose I cannot have too many complaints."

As much as I can't stand Mercenary Owen he doesn't actually say he regrets coming to Newcastle just that we obviously weren't his first choice.

That doesn't come as any surprise.

Story twisted to suit title. Papers do have to sell.

    Better still.

At least he'd have something to eat and the little cherub wouldn't starve to death.

Wasn't his fault Shepherd paid £5m more than Liverpool when he was obviously crocked. That single transaction was one of the stupidest moments in sporting history.

I have never had any problem with Owen. Freddie Shepherd on the other hand.............................

End of the day we got what we paid for with Owen. A perma crocked footballer, whose best days were behind him, whose interest in football was on the wane. Even at his best he relied heavily on others to do his work. He was never the Bellamy type who went chasing lost causes etc. Certainly not the type you'd want in a dogfight. I hear it said time and time again "he risked it for England though". Of cours ehe ****ing did, any player worth is salt would to get to a major tournament. They don't come along very often. Shearer would have happily done exactly the same and not given a second thought about Newcastle.

FFS was the cupid stunt who paid way over the odds, who offered wages way over the odds. I don't blame Owen at all, he even made it known we were a reseve choice, the plug should have been pulled at that point. Even Souness claimed he didn't want Owen. It was just a PR exercise to massage FFS's ego.

Aye mate hear that, but he's since gone on record having a pop at the fans who weren't happy with his lack of commitment when playing for us... against a context of suddenly being fit for England.

Souness wanted Anelka but Freddie bought Owen instead. Ridiculous.

Would you not join a club if they offered you £100k/week.....**** what the fan think who cares its all that lovely jubbly money going into his bank account that matters. So how is it Owens fault?? The club made him an offer and he could not believe his luck...

I'd join the club and be grateful to earn such a lot of cash in today's world. I'd also not start having a pop at the fans, the people who ultimately pay my wages and I certainly wouldn't cry off injured to protect my England chances.
