I think you are wrong, Josh pointed out that Stewart had already appeared for two clubs so he was on the emergency rule, Kebe wasn't on it (the 93 day loan) Granted with kebe but most on here had doubts about Stewart and the Hull guys described him perfectly. BUT... We are supporters, we are not paid to do a managers job, it was McD who should have watched them both, Stewart had played 18 games for Charlton this season Because it will be cheaper to sack the useless out of his depth nobody who isn't fit to manage a first division team luckiest manager for a while after Saturday Seriously... I know you are fed up with his bashing but he is garbage as far as managing a team goes, he inherited a good Reading team, he struck it lucky and he will NEVER get another team promoted again that's if anyone ever wants to give him another chance. I don't get fed-up with the McD love, I fail to understand why he gets any but everyone is entitled to one - opinion
I think he is right that he handled matters as well as he could but some of the form this season is deplorable and should not have happened. He seems a nice man, speaks well enough and I think will come out with his dignity intact and get another job but some of the managing decision and players brought in and played are dubious enough to suspect his prowess as a gaffer is limited and therefore I wish him well but I would like a new man in charge for a beginning to the new revolution on the road back to the Premiership starting next season and yes I am available Massimo so give me a call
Glad this season is over after Saturday. I really don't want to live through that kind of soap opera again even though it was from the sidelines. As for McDonut, yeah he's been terrible this season as manager but I'm willing to give him another chance if I look at it rationally. Let's see what he can do with a bit of money and a couple of Cellino's choices and a lot less of Colin dross.
More than that Wolves, there should be no off the field issues to deal with. So if BMD is better than this season would suggest he is, he should be able to prve a lot of people wrong on here & deliver something approaching a promotion chasing team next season.
Would you honestly trust him with a large chunk of your money to toss about in the transfer market Boggers? I wouldn't and suspect the vast vast majority of Leeds fans feel the same way. Ill go as far as to say, if he's in charge next season, my interest in all things Leeds will be dramatically reduced. Has to be better hobbies than supporting McDs antics
If he could get a Blackstock esq striker in the summer I say why not give him a little money. The talk of young players coming up from lower leagues excites me a little. A lot of players will be leaving this summer as they're out of contract and I can see a few more players being sold e.g. Peltier and Tongue. Give McD the chance to sign a few players and let Cellino fill in the gaps with some scouted European league players. TBH if the two of them can work together to get a good mix of player we have nothing to loose. It can't be as bad as finishing 16th this season. Also this is a really bad stance to take but I'd also give Aryibi another season at the club. You've got to remember Somma didn't break in to the 1st team in his 1st season with us
Hang on a minute, Eire. What do you base this on? BM spent our money on 2 signings - Murphy & Wooton. Didn't hear anyone complain about it at the time, and whilst they haven't exactly set the heather alight, I wouldn't call them abject failures either. Definitely worth investing in them, in my opinion, and definitely worth hanging on to. You might argue that Stewart is a signing too, which though technically incorrect, is a fair comment. The jury is most certainly out on him. Next season will be defining for him. Again, did we complain when we signed him? Generally no. We signed other players - all of them free. Smith is a success. Zaliukas was, but fell away for some reason. Hunt? I have my own view on him, but it looks like we'll have him next year, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, & assess him next year (although think I know the answer). Tell me one manager that has a 100% record on signing excellent freebies - especially when he has signings lined up, only for his budget to be pulled at the last minute? Loans? Rarely have I seen any really successful loans come through our door, so no point in me commenting on BMs efforts, especially after him announcing that he didn't like them (this was before his budget was pulled & he had to start looking under stones for people).
Im afraid jock we'll have to agree to disagree. Murphy may work out, not sure about Wooton. Smith ok but the rest were and are awful
You missed my point, Eire. He only spent money on 2 signings. You were saying that you didn't trust him to spend money, but you've no idea who he was going to sign when he believed he had the money. He could have had all sorts of gems lined up, but thanks to GFH, his budget was pulled & he had to go into the basement bargain - and after everyone else had found the bargains.
You missed Eires point. It's his opinion, and he don't have to justify how he arrives at it. At risk of ire stop hectoring accept that others see things differently to you. The fact he is right should make that easier.
But the likes of Hunt and Kebe cost a hell of a lot of money, given the daft wages they were on. May not have been a transfer fee but money squandered anyway. Kebe then allowed pull a sickie on full wages for six weeks. Nope, I dont trust him Im afraid Jock
I'll admit that my confidence in him is dented, however I believe he was put in a unique position at the last minute & he stood up well, given the circumstances. Neither Hunt nor Kebe were favourites of mine - not by a long shot! However, when I heard we were signing them, I didn't object. Don't recall anyone else being up in arms either. Think BM was as disappointed as us. We'll never get to the bottom of what went wrong with the team this year. I for one am enthused about next season, mainly on the basis that it cannot under any circumstances be as bad as this season. Oh crap, I've said it now, haven't I? It's all going to be my fault. We're all DOOMED!
I certainly never lauded the arrival of the two "wingers". As for next season, I'm looking forward to it big time, mainly due to the hardship of this one. However, for me, my enthusiasm will be seriously dampened if McD is still in charge
Next season will be a season of putting finances in order no matter who is in charge. If anyone is expecting a push for even the playoffs they will be very pissed off.
I think most would be happy if we can see an improvement in the calibre of player were signing coupled with a standard of football worth watching. Whereas I should be envying the likes of you GH attending all home games, I find myself pitying you. That can't be right and isn't. Its easier for me, watching on the dreaded sky, I just switch it off when it gets too dire. As I say, I just want to see players at the club with a future and can make some attempt to entertain. Playoffs would be an unlikely bonus
Its going to be an interesting season Eire, and to answer your point, yes I would trust BMD to bring in some quality to at least push for play offs. Not sure we'll get promoted. But as a project, I would accept losing in the play offs as evidence of progress towards autos in 15/16. Time will tell. But I think BMD remaining in charge for at least the first few months next season will ensure stability. Cellino's money will ensure we can buy a bit more quality. All we'll need is a fair wind and a bit of good fortune. Keep the faith boys and girls.
If Brian stays I'll be incredibly happy if he proves my suspicions about his signings and tactics wrong, and I'll get behind him and whatever team he fields (yes even if Hunt is in there ). I imagine there will be a fair bit of doom and gloom amongst our fan base next season, as a lot of people will be expecting playoffs / promotion - completely oblivious to the task at hand to sort the club out. I like to think that even though we all have differing opinions on here at least we're smart enough to recognise how much work is ahead!
what a superb thread, fantastic points made by all ... I personally would prefer a new manager (coach) in, but as has been said it may not be a bad thing if McD is given two months to prove himself to Cellino ... the key thing is that Cellino will be buying the players, not McD or a new coach, so if McD leaves in September it won't matter, because it will be Cellino's players anyway "For the sake of Leeds United he would break himself in two"
Id be happy with that too Billy. Id rather McDs not doing the signings. I dont trust him with that end of things, I may be wrong. Cellino has 20 years odd experience wheeling and dealing with contracts, fees etc, has the scouting network, using his own money so unlikely hell make a balls of too many signings. Pity elmos not here to add a different flavour to proceedings for some
