Manchester United's interim boss Ryan Giggs has confirmed that Wayne Rooney is suffering from a groin problem that could limit his involvement over the final three games of the season. United claim that Rooney has a combination of a stomach bug and a âtight groinâ, but MailOnline understands that it is the latter of those conditions that is giving most cause for concern. Rooney left training early on Thursday and was immediately sent for scans with the clubâs medical staff anxious to investigate further. It is feared that the 28-year-old has aggravated a groin problem that caused him to miss five games in January and take a warm weather break in Egypt. Rest and recuperation eased the problem then and United feel that Rooney might need another spell on the sidelines to ensure the injury does not develop into something more serious. They will assess his condition on Friday before deciding if he can face Sunderland at home this weekend. However, Robin van Persie could rejoin the squad after missing the last eight games with the knee injury he suffered in the Champions League win over Olympiacos on March 19. Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Giggs said: âA few of the lads have had a bug. Anders Lindegaard has had a bug and Wayne has, but Wayne has also got a tight groin so with the bug you just have to be careful with that. âHis immune system is down a little bit but Wayne being Wayne wants to play and be involved so weâll just monitor it over the next 24 hours. âRobin has been back training this week and heâs looked good. Whether tomorrow is too early weâll just see how he goes today but heâs looked really good this week.â With United having little left to play for in their remaining three games under Giggs, they are unlikely to risk Rooney if there is any doubt about his fitness. The England striker will also be reluctant to take any chances with the World Cup looming after going into the last two tournaments under an injury cloud. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ose-comeback-six-weeks-out.html#ixzz30YNk3XnH
For ****s sake. Rooney injured again before a major international tournament. Going to be going into it rusty again. Load of ****e. We need him firing on all cylinders.
Thought exactly the same. Does he ever go into a tournament not carrying a knock? As for Wilshere, is he ever not recovering from some injury or other?
Rooney - injured Jagielka - injured Wilshere - injured Sturridge - injured Townsend - injured Oxlade-Chamberlain - had a long injury Walcott - out Rodriguez - out Cleverley - ready to go!
Townsend's already out and he's **** anyway. The others will all be fine, though Oxlade-Chamberlain is a bit of a risk, as he's unlikely to play another game for Arsenal this season. I do think Woy's finally realised that Cleverley isn't good enough and he won't select him.
Yep, it looks that way. For Cleverley to go, at least two of the likely squad's centre mids would have to be injured (though let's face it, there's a good chance Wilshere will be).
