Rooney isn't a close friend of Moyes and they only recently shook hands after years and after a courtcase, on the other hand RVP is a proper friend of his future manager.
I have no problem with RVP as captain, he deserves it just as much as Rooney does. I don't really see why Rooney is seen as the obvious choice tbh. This is the guy who's held us to ransom, and threatened to leave on numerous occasions. SAF was right about Rooney if you ask me

tbh i rather we had martinez or Pochettino over van Gaal bcz the later will struggle to adopt to PL, let alone knowing if his football style will fit into PL system or not .. hope am proving wrong .. but there is a big gamble imo here
