I hope there's an announcement on Van Gaal's appointment tomorrow.

Couldn't really care less about Beckham tbh, was a very long time ago. I can't imagine many other United fans would hold that against Simeone if we got him

    Why ?

It seems certain he's going to get it but I hardly think it's a exciting appointment.

I don't consider him one of ther 'elite' managers we should be going for.

    Who?

    Pep - Wouldnt want him.
    Mourinho - Not likely
    Klopp - Not elite
    Ancelotti - Not happening
    Simeone - Not elite
Fergie - retired and a daft choice.

van Gaal is the best realistic option out there and I for one find it quite an exciting appointment. If he can do for us what he did for others then we should be the best team in the world in 4 or 5 years time.

    How is Simeone not elite?

He has worked miracles with that Atletico side, he's won the Uefa Cup, the Super Cup and the Copa Del Rey in 2 previous seasons. They have La Liga at there mercy this season, and they've got a great chance of winning the CL, in what I see as a 50/50 game. They've done all this this season, having sold there best player Falcao in the summer. He has done a remarkable job so far there, without doubt the best manager in Europe this season

If given the choice then van Gaal would be fourth choice for me, behind Ancelotti, Klopp and Guardiola.

Just as Moyes was last year, so I hope that isn't the kiss of death!!!

Just like last time though the top three are not realistically available.

Ancelotti looks good to win the CL, maybe even La Liga too. No doubt he'll have a crack at La Liga next year though. Shame, but who can blame him for wanting to work with Ronaldo and Bale (and maybe even Suarez next season!). No one.

Guardiola is still a brilliant manager. He ****ed up v Real but he is still brilliant, which he'll no doubt prove over the next couple of seasons. Can't see him leaving.

Klopp seems happy at Dortmund. What can you do? Maybe after three or so years of van Gaal he will be available and he'll realise that he's done all he can with Dortmund. Or he'll get the Bayern job and Pep comes to us!!!

Simeone's teams play wonderful football and to win what he has, with the potential for much more, on his budget is brilliant. Interested too so a valid outsider. Will HAVE to learn English.

I'd want either Pep or Klopp. These are the exact sort of managers we should be breaking the bank to bring to United.

SAF shouldn't even been in the list. Jose may be elite but as you know I wouldn't want him at United.

Van Gaal would be ok for a 2 or 3 year stop gap but that's it.

Ive seen avb do similar with a similar side so I will reserve judgement on him. Klopp has done just as well too basically and hes not elite either.

Rafa dis similar and again, not elite...

Rodgers has turned liverpool around. Not elite.

    He's not elite.

I dont rate Pep. Personally think he would be a disaster in the premier league. His style has never worked in England

I would prefer klopp followed by mourinho and then van gaal. Ancelotti is 4th choice for me.

So winning the Portuguese league, and the Uefa Cup with Porto, matches beating Real and Barca in La Liga, with Atletico, and getting them to a CL final <doh>

    So rodgers is elite?

Taking the 3rd best Spanish side up a place or two isnt elite. Doing it year after year would be.

    One offs happen.

Dont even mention the champions league. Rdm.

I still don't get why you crave him so much? He's a perfect fit for Chelsea, he and they do not give one **** about how they win, so long as they do. Good luck to them.

I would, personally, much rather have Ancelotti. By a mile over Mourinho, who is a distant fifth for me, although he is ahead of Simeone who I believe would be a big gamble.

I think he would be perfect for us, always have. His antics dont bother me and never have. What I look for is someone who is a proven winner, a bigger ego than any player on earth and someone not afraid to make the big calls.

Thats Mourinho. Hes the best manager in the world. The only manager you could stick anywhere and he would bring success. Sure his style can be dull but it can also be explosive.

I think a a manager who doesnt care how they win as long as they win is exactly what an elite club like ours should be looking for. Fergie was never afraid to win ugly, sit deep and pull off performances equally dull.

Simeone is a mental choice though, guy cant even speak english. The last guy who couldnt speak english was oneday ramos and well..... yeh......exactly.

The saints boss does speak fluent english btw, before KS points out otherwise.

Ancelotti has a good cup record, but I'm not convinced of his ability to win titles. His sides tend to drop a lot of points, against weaker opposition domestically. Even when he won the title over here, it was because of his record in the big games, when they beat all the other top 4 sides home and away to win it by a point, though you can't rely on doing that every season, as was proven the following season. He also only won 1 league title in 8 years in Milan, and his title with PSG can be taken with a pinch of salt, seeing as they are miles ahead of everyone else in terms of spend power

How do you know how good or bad his English is, have you asked him about it?

And even if he can't speak any English, he can learn. Pepe Mel now does his interviews in English after only a few months here, having not been able to speak a word of it before. Simeone is still a young guy to, so he's likely to pick it up quicker than guys like Pepe Mel

Im also led to believe hes more negative than a Mourinho Chelsea side up against a great attacking side and he plays football to win first, goals and entertainment are secondary if at all.

thats a good trait though, I am not dissing it. Just pointing out that this seasons fad manager is getting praised for the same things people are bashing mourinho for. weird.

Not for me KS. teams occasionally do step up temporarily and this could be another case of that happening. Athletico were far from rubbish before him and you can easily argue that Real and Barcelona are much worse domestically than they have been at anytime in the past 5 years.

its very similar to Liverpool so again, do you consider rodgers elite?

I'm not bashing Jose. I think he's very good at what he does and he's perfected the style which he likes to play.

I just don't want to see that style of play at United <ok>
