Same story every year, last year it was Vydra who was irreplaceable. Its probably the right time for Deeney to move on same as it wasn't the right time for Vydra (he was not at top of his game but weak minded so I guess...). Deeney is at the top of his game and has little or no improvement space, hopefully if I've got the Pozzos right his moving on will free up opportunity for some younger less developed talent to get in the spotlight and have a cracking season. We'll probably keep trying to fill the boots at the sharp end with a success rate of 1 in 6 to 1 in 4. Essential over the summer is to weld a team together with strong leadership on and off the pitch with decent strike pairing and reserve. Defence needs sorting for the away performances (stating the obvious) its not a case of ability but organization and motivation, big John McClelland type needed.
Troy Deeney is absolutely priceless to us, he is arguably the best all round player in the championship! We cannot replace him, once he's gone he's gone and no amount of Udinese "end of line" players can match him. If these owners can't see this and don't offer him an amazing contract then they are exposed for what they are just a bunch of .............................................
astute businessmen who will get the best price for a player wanting to better himself in the EPL and who won't listen to an ungrateful idiot like you yv.......
Completely disagree, Deeney is not Gods gift to football, loved his commitment but he's not going to get any better than now and is certainly not in the irreplaceable class.
Exactly right. very easy to say what people should do when we're not the ones who actually have to make the decisions. I'm not going to put a value on TD's head but I would dare to wager that it's worth more than having the same underperforming squad (obviously not all of them!) and an unhappy centre forward who's been told he can't go to a top flight club. We cannot look into the future but as far as I'm concerned they're doing fine so far albeit we may all have concerns about some of the playing side (when didn't we or any other set of fans?!)- owners with no long term plan other than to bleed the club dry don't tend to build new stands.
As has been shown this season, you can have a player who scores 20+ goals, but he alone will not make a team. Deeney has worked hard, maybe he felt that he owed it to the club, but he is not the quickest and there are others around with different skills that could do just as good a job. Maybe after last season too many, including the Pozzos expected things would go much better, but now it is time to rebuild the whole team, and if the right offer comes along for the player and the club accept it, just move forward.
Amazing really, someone went into the ticket office today and could only get a couple of restricted view seats against Huddersfield.
I am pleased that the club have taken this step and he has accepted. http://mobile.watfordfc.com/news/article/140501-the-graham-taylor-stand-1520316.aspx I expect that the new stand will be sponsored now.
Thats a great touch from the club! I have always wondered why it was the Rous Stand. I believe his only connection to the town was he went to school here? He didn't have any direct link to the actual club? Also a pretty big decision to rename a stand when it's not sponsor-driven, a very nice touch from the owners!
Great news on the re-naming of The Rous stand and very good timing. Like OFH, this will probably mean the new East Stand being named after a sponsor.
Albert Riera has been charged with Improper Conduct due to his rather over the top aggressive reaction towards the officials albeit to a harsh looking second yellow card (not helped by the Charlton guy going down easily and up pretty sharpish) Unless we were going to sign him for next season this won't have any impact on us anyway? Good news about GT - Hopefully he'll come down to re-name it himself as such.
For those of us in the Upper Rous will we become the Upper GT while the Lower Rous becomes the Lower GT? I suppose we could be the Graham while they are the Taylor or vice versa. Given the usual scorn heaped on the Upper Rous no doubt it won't be long before someone labels us the G & T stand
Good news re the GT stand. Riera showing his experience as Mark said, http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...11186775.Riera_charged_with_improper_conduct/ Also, http://www.watfordobserver.co.uk/sp...rnets_one_booking_away_from_unwanted_century/ they can't all be from bad decisions, a terrible, discraseful record.
I bet most of them aren't even for basic fouls - probably just ill mannered behaviour! That is why I think we have a bad reputation - not because were dirty per say but like to niggle and mouthy.
It was a strange decision. His record in football was nothing if not impressive - amateur player, referee (reffed a Cup Final & quite a few Internationals), President of FIFA, FA secretary, rewrote the rules of the game etc etc. As far as I'm aware, his only connection with Watford was that he was a sports teacher at WBGS for a while. Oddly, it was his decision to swap the school's sport from Football to Rugby, no doubt pissing off generations of boys who attended there, including me. So I'm not sure why the club chose to honour him in that way.
