I'm pretty happy about it to be honest. Those who think we will lose out as a nation clearly haven't been paying attention to FIFA actually allowing several new "not entirely sovereign" nations such as Puerto Rico to join and compete as seperate entities in recent years.

Also considering it could be the only realistic chance for the likes of Ramsey, Bale, Allen and co to take part in a major international event.

Typical of the Welsh and Scottish FA's to kick up a fuss, they just want to have full control and can see their grip on their national teams slipping.

Personally I am all for it, the Olympics is one of the few world events where we can all enjoy being British and as hackerjack says it would be fantastic for some of our best Welsh players to get the chance to play.

i've never really payed much attention to the olympic tournament when it comes to football. i've looked out for the winners like, but never watched the games. not sure why because i'll watch football from anywhere in the world. maybe i just thought it was never taken too seriousely by the competing nations. they seemed to use lower league or amature players with just a few pro's who'd been allowed to take part by their perent clubs. maybe i'm wrong. does anybody think this could turn into another version of the world cup?

If any welsh player puts themselves forward for this they should be banned from ever wearing the shirt again, the english fa and the boa can go f*** themselves if they think we as a nation would ever join this and put the Wales team at risk,

    Hacker

This has got nothing to do with small countries, FIFA would love to unite the 4 nations because currently we have too much power within the fifa family, we currently have 4 votes on all the major committees within fifa and therefore pretty much run those committees and they dont like it, and they would love to unite the home nations into one team, so lets not help them do it

Mabon you are reading to much into this, this is no suggestion that FIFA will try and do that, and if they confirm that I don't see a problem, it will be akin to the British lions for rugby, but in football, also every nation has their own ideas, did you see the FAW siding with the FA with the vote thing ? Team gb needs a gb football team for the Olympics , without it the host country has no representation, well except an all English side which will not be gb , also the players will be mostly youngsters anyway !

And you trust blatter to stick to his word, he has already warned the home nations to play an england team because he himself stated that FIFA would challenge our autonomy, now if the olympics were being held in the congo do you think the english would care about putting a united team out, not for a minute. In footballing terms we are four seperate nations and that is how it must remain, and today the English FA and the BOA have shown what lying caniving bas***ds they really are.

Personally i would not risk it and i am 100% behind the FAW and our fellow celtic nations, and furthermore if any Welsh player through personally glory is prepared to put our autonomy at risk as an independant footballing nation they dont deserve to represent our nation in the red of Wales,

Mabon - it gets you going, but there's also a large amount of people that don't bat an eyelid about it. I want to support a team at the Olympics - it would be a crying shame not to be represented in a sport that we are so developed at in our own country. I know you're against it, but I'm for it. Maybe I'm naive and don't know enough about the situation, but maybe you're paranoid and have over-thought the situation. Whatever, life goes on.

I wonder what the kit will look like... :emoticon-0138-think

To be bluntly honest with you Mabon, I don't give a toss about a Wales team any longer, they are run by muppets , they have a muppet manager, and IMO will never achieve anything ever! All I care about is the swans, we are no longer in the FAW twat organisation, they have alienated the clubs and fans.

Basically I don't care what they do Mabon, and a lot of people feel the same, they indenitify more with England than Wales !

That is sad, but you are entitled to your opinion as is kidderz and i will stand with you to defend it

    Kidderz

Not paranoid or have i over thought in relation to it, As a welshman i will always defend the right of my nation to have independance in footballing terms its what makes us different, and as long as it is threatened i will support those trying to maintain our autonomy. Personally i have no time for Team GB or anything associated with it,

Change of topic but i picked this up off the moderator board earlier

I think it's fair to say it had a few more. Hopefully we can kick on from here, I'm looking into getting the site reprogrammed so we can have one thread in two or more forums (match day threads) and when we get on Newsnow we can promote these threads, try get a lot of new people on talking during match days.

Mabon - I know I hinted I thought you were paranoid, but I also hinted that I was naive. I don't really think we are either of those things, just two guys with different opinions on the situation. I believe that having a GBR Olympic team will not put our national identity or football team at stake. In fact, by having some of our players playing in this tournament (mostly the guys under 23 according to the Olympic football rules (3 players over 23, all the rest younger)) - will actually wet the appetite of the players and could spur them on to bigger and better things for Wales. Unlike Jager, I'm an avid Wales football fan and watch all national games - I'd never want to see our football team disbanded. Good can still come out of this one-off merger yet.
