Well that is it. Another last bit of terrace where I would sometimes stand has been dug up today in preparation for the extension. Nothing left now. No Shrodells stand, no VicarageRoad terrace, no Main Stand and no shale bank. Don't suppose anyone has thought of bringing the dog track back either.
Same as me Bloother, when I walked down Occupation Road on Saturday it looked as straight as I would expect.
It certainly ain't straight. I was talking to a builder and he said it wasn't straight. But after the game I was able to take a look inside the gates as saw why.
I can't even picture what used to be next to the old main stand where the 1969 main stand was built. I seem to remember some rank smelling toilets, like the ones at the top of the curve the other side, but could you watch the game from anywhere there?
I suppose they've put it up like that so the players can get out of the dressing room door...... So much for those on here that have walked past it and swear it is straight!
The toilets were underneath the southern bit of the Main Stand and they were indeed pretty rank, but not as rank as the toilets on the cinder bank "bend" between the Rookery and Shrodells stand. There was a large refreshment hut between the Main Stand and the Rookery Stand - queued up there on many occasions - but no terracing. You could stand against the railings around the flapper track all the way between the Main Stand and Rookery.
Ah yes, the refreshment hut. I think We watched the closing minutes of some games from there if the lads were getting stuffed, prior to making a quick exit.
Just goes to show how quickly you can put something up if you really try. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-38juKWuOjI&feature=youtu.be
My red seat has been installed this afternoon. Any guesses what it will say? Glad to see the red being used, our season has not been so good with just yellow and black.
Neat little railway they've got to deliver the seats to the top of the stand. There doesn't seem to be any logic to the way they're putting them in, but I expect it's something to do with the art work of the various colours- wonder what the design will be. There must be a whole lot of careful measuring and aligning to do to get all the seats in correctly. Must be more than 'just whack 'em in', or they wouldn't be going what appears to be so slowly.
Not a lot to see on the webcam today, but man with digger looked as if he would disappear down a very large hole in the NE corner. This afternoon he had a readymix delivery to fill his hole up! Clearly it is for the foundations for the two additional bays, but the council do have until the end of the month to agree them. Later this afternoon a man with what appeared to be a leveling device was going round the pitch in front of the Rookery. Maybe we are planning to install a barricade to help out the defence.
Think most of the work is out of sight as the changing rooms have to be built before the last part of the stand is demolished. Retaining walls have been built in the NE corner and many loads of soil removed. You can keep up to date here Mex. http://iris2.time-lapse-systems.com...JPG&id=1384880&pass=watford-football-club-cam I think there was one of the pay to play on the pitch events today.
