According to the ever reliable twitter, De Boer was quoted yesterday talking of his interest in joining a sleeping giant like Spurs or NUFC and adding something to them as Brendan Rodgers has done at Liverpool.

Obviously MA wouldn't dream of replacing good old Pardew with a manager he doesn't know and trust like De Boer, but how refreshing to hear of us spoken of positively.

Pardew likes to tell us we cannot compete with x,y and z club. De Boer calls us a sleeping giant. I like him better already.

I never thought a manager with his talent was possible. Surely any Newcastle United boardroom member including Ashley knows bloody well that Frank De Boer would be a fantastic success here.

... and Alan Pardew is tripe.

I'd be truly excited if we appointed him. If Spurs went for him too though he'd only go there.

There is a problem with the highlighted bit though. It is obvious to you, me, everyone on this board and anyone else with more than half a brain cell, but Ashley either thought Pardew and Kinnear would be success stories or he doesn't actually care so long as we stay in the money and he knows/trusts/can boss those he appoints.

I just think he's not very football savvy... and is prone to handing skilled jobs to his unskilled buddies, amazing how he gained his wealth.

OR, you are assuming Ashley knows about 'football'. He might well be generally smart and you never know, he might even care (doubtful, but for argument's sake) but perhaps he doesn't know enough about who footy managers are to select a good one.

Would be a real coup for the club to get him as manager.

I do fear though that he's mentioned us knowing full well that Pardew is on the ropes and with the soul intent of flushing out Spurs interest in him.

I'd take De Boer IF he was interested.

The annoying thing is because of his name he would be able to attract some fantastic players, but Ashley simply wouldn't sanction signing them.

I have some difficulty envisaging a discussion between Ashley and De Boer regarding job description and areas of authority coming to a successful conclusion.

Hmmm... Every sports website has him down as saying a Spurs or Liverpoool would interest him, where did our name come from?! Stupid twitter!

Frank De Boer would be a dream for us. A wet dream.

If I was Ashley I would be straight on the blower to see if he really fancied it.

28 Feb 2013 - On his debut for Leeds United the 18 year old Alan Smith fired home an equaliser at Anfield with his first touch in professional football.

Not a bad start to his professional career.

I thought we just scouted players from the Dutch leagues not management & coaching staff!

Various newspapers have quoted this from an interview on Dutch TV.
He doesn't actually say Newcastle interest him, just mentioning us as sleeping giants and will be talking to Spurs next week, which seems a bit of a t**ts thing to do since Sherwood is still manager. I suppose people will read it differently.

“Spurs have let Ajax know they will eventually talk to me at the end of the season,” he said. “I’m going to listen and talk. Then I’ll make my feelings known. After the last league game [against NEC on May 3] I’ll think about it. I’ll talk to them and listen to what they have to say.

"I would like to add something to a club like Brendan Rodgers did at Liverpool. I see a perspective at Tottenham Hotspur, just as Liverpool and Newcastle United sometimes are, they are sleeping giants.”
