Champions League Watch

Discussion in 'Liverpool' started by astro, Feb 12, 2013.

  1. Bayern won a treble last season so didn't exactly have a poor squad did they? They may have won the league (who seriously challenged them?) but they have look poor in the CL and got taught a lesson by Real last night. The system and tactics should be picked to best suit the players you have available, not the other way around which is clearly the case with Guardiola at Bayern.

I don't rate Guardiola as highly as others. Sure, I appreciate what he's won but I also see the teams he's been in charge of, players he's had at his disposal and the large pots of cash available to him to improve where he needs too, even you could have won stuff in his position! Until he (and same goes for Mourinho) either drops a level or absolutely dominates at more than one club, my view will remain reserved. And no, one season doesn't constitute dominance.

fine line between success and failure.

could argue he had a wining team and maybe needs time to adapt his style on the players so why meddle with it so quickly, but he was also up against it in making history ie no team has so far successfully defended the CL.

if he had of made the final this year people would have been calling him a genius, just because he has failed at the last hurdle ie semi finals hardly the end of tika taka and all the other ****e spouted.

i remember last season everyone was saying the end of the spanish domination ie Bayern and Dortmund making the final, this year its back to spanish teams again lol well one so far, lets see if the other one can make the final as well, but wont be any german teams in it.

  4. See, I wouldn't and that's what I'm getting at. He and picked his next club (after Barca) and it was all setup for him to continue raising to the top of his pedestal. Only way he'd impress me whilst in charge of Bayern is if he dominated things like he did at Barca. Still has time on his side of course, he's done very well domestically too and a semi in the CL isn't exactly bad either. Just the way they've performed in the CL and the way they went out that was poor.

It is not easy taking over a side that have done it all, as once sides have won, they often become less motivated, this is part of the reason why no side has ever retained the Champions League. He changed it because that is his philosophy, and they haven't done to badly playing his way. Bayern knew he would change things, and that's what they paid him to do. He's not going to set up with tactics he's never used before. There is no guarantees last seasons coach would have done any better, with a side that have already done it all, history was always against them retaining the Cup. A semi final defeat, has to be atleast a par for the course though

  6. I agree he was always going to change it, my point was it should be done slowly over time to avoid lackluster performances like last night. I should point out that I've not watched Bayern in the league so my opinion is based purely on CL games.

I assume you mean pep and if so I fully agree. Hes good but hes not the best. Nowhere near for me.

Pep would get trounced in the PL where 7 or 8 sides are good enough to counter his tippy tap bullshit.

Imagine him at Chelsea or United trying that ****e. The very best managers adapt to the situation. Pep cannot.

Bayern are now starting to suffer from the lack of real quality in their domestic league now.

They had the title sown up over a month ago and are rarely challenged at all aside from Leverkusen

Thought so, could have checked back but was easier to assume <laugh>

I think he would struggle in the premier league if he didnt have another option. Theres no Messi in this league and nobody comparable to xavi and iniesta. In Germany theres no real competition so his style works against what are, weak sides.

He was completely clueless last night. As clueless as Moyes or Woy ever were.

  14. I not sure he would struggle in the Premier League but like with Mourinho, he'd need a large budget to work from. I said earlier that his Bayern miss a Messi, Iniesta and Xavi but TBF, which who wouldn't? <laugh>
