Seem to remember Villa and Pedro scoring a couple of decent ones at Wembley.

Are you seriously suggesting that players like Xavi, Inestia and Busquetts wouldn't have walked into any team at that time???

Spain were doing pretty well around that time without Messi, based around the bulk of the Barca team.

Messi is the best player iv'e ever seen (except for maybe Maradonna for 4 weeks in 1986) but to dismiss the the rest of that team is just revisionist BS to suit your agenda.

Not sure I ever said any of that.

Xavi amd iniesta are true greats but they are not the ones who will win you the game. They are the ones that keep the ball and keep it some more.

My point is, without Messi barceoona lacked penetration. He scored half their ****ing goals.

As frank said, its the same with Real and Ronaldo. They have addressed it with bale somewhat but take him away and its nowhere near as good.

Spain are boring as ****. Mind numbing stuff.

I respect and admire the success but I cannot stand the style of play. I support a team based on counter attacking football and wing play. Its the complete opposite.

Now if only united could go back to that...

  7. Sweinsteiger, Ribery and Robben are good but Guardiola needs his Messi, Iniesta and Xavi!

Anyone remember me saying Guardiola isn't the major his reputation suggests? Anyone could win things with the Barca team he had and I believed he needed to go to a team in need of re-developing to prove his self. Going to Bayern seemed like another easy choice to me but it appears he's rectify that reputation there :)

Why oh why are Bayern so slow in their development? They've got good players but by the time the ball arrives in the last third they are all marked!

Domnation by Real though..... they were hungry for the game, not so much sitting back but they closed down well and broke at rapier speed.

I love it how everyone is writing Pep Guardiola's obituary based on one CL defeat. He hasn't done to badly this season with a side that is still learning his way of playing. They won the Bundesliga in record time, and there still in the German Cup final, and they got to the semi's of the CL, losing out to a side that have the 2 most expensive players ever. People make out like it was easy to take over a side that had won the treble last season, but it really isn't, as it's always harder to defend your trophys than win them in the first place.

Peps way of playing cannot be taught over night, particularly with players who have been used to playing the German way for many years, which is pace and power. His side will be a lot stronger in the CL next season, mark my words.

Also a word on a Ronaldo, 16 goals and he's missed some of the games through injury, what an amazing player. Let's hope if Chelsea get to the final, that he scores another 4, to make it a round 20

  15. Doesn't a top manager play to their strengths? You describe it more as square pegs in round holes but Bayern were the top side last season, why change it?

Sweet jesus, some real bollocks on this thread about Pep and his style, especially from UIR.

It goes like this. Pep at barca dominates domestic league and CL. He's a genius.
Pep loses a game, or CL tie. It's the end of tika taka.

Pep wins German league and gets to semi semi, are CL favourites.
bayern lose the tie, no one has ever retained the trophy, Tika Taka is dead yet again.

Really? he's won the CL and multiple league titles with his style of football.

never mind that 3 Real goals came from set pieces as well.

Every time a team dominates with great football when they eventually lose it's the end of something<doh>

As for UIR, talking about Messi and Barca, where would United have finished without RvP last season? When you have a quality player like that you look to get them to give you the advantage, it is not a fault of the team, it's how you get the best out of a player> Then again UIR said Messi would be "just some player" in a couple of years in early 2012. Still waiting on that to happen :D

  18. A top manager makes best use of what is available to them. Guardiola trying to force his style onto the Bayern players after such a successful way of playing doesn't constitute top management to me. Sure, implement your own style but do it gradually over time like our Brod has #topmanager :)

Yeah walking your league and making the CL semi final is not being a top manager<doh> Silly me.

Winning everything is not being a top manager. Riiight.

Surely Rodgers has shown that the initial season with a new system is impacted by the changes, does this not also go for Pep and Bayern?

He hasn't won in Europe, but he's still broke so many records in Germany and has won the league for Munich, and still in with a shout for winning the cup and doing the double, not exactly ****! The fact that some are calling him out for not winning in Europe shows how high the standards are for him.
