I think form is irrelevant really. People always judge by the last performance which is wrong. Giroud has scored more than Van Persie this year - But he's certainly not a better player. By your logic he would be though. For me in terms of ability Messi is the greatest ever. Better than Ronaldo, better than Maradonna and yes better than Pele.
I am not judging it on the last game, though. Two season's is long enough to judge and Ronaldo has been the better player. Also right now, he is miles ahead. Messi does not seem to be himself these days. Maybe, he is saving himself for the world cup, but in terms of performances he has been way short of Ronaldo this season.

Two Seasons? In 2012 - 2013 Messi Scored 60 goals in 50 apps - He scored more and got more assists than Ronaldo in fewer games.
