Understandable cost saving because to dispense with this pillar would need a completely new roof on the Dolman. And if the Atyeo is ever rebuilt, there will be a pillar at the other end of the Dolman. Minimal view interference?
Glad you think it's safe to come out now, my dear sag friend, you been hiding for to long. Glad you've got some sunlight
The beam probably hasn't got the connections to put in a modern roof. That means that probably a whole new roof is needed to get rid of the pillar.
The stadium looks great aside from the Atyeo which looks totally out of place. The main stand is amazing
I believe most of us will agree with you Angelic, except of course the usual dissenters who would have been satisfied with the retention of the Wedlock and Williams, the demolition of the other two, to have been replaced by a new version of the old "Cow Shed" and open terracing at the Ashton Road end.
Unaware of this view regarding the Eastend [nobody calls it the Wedlock], but there was a continued evidence based theme provided by Supporters trust surveys [x2] using questions set by BCFC that identiify physical enclosure and enhanced acoustics as highly desirable [60 - 80% in favour depending on stand etc] . Support was highest in the Atyeo and Eastend, which in theory would be the target market. These themes were statistically supported by fans across ALL stands and ALL stakeholders groups. A new mini version of the Kop would have provided that physical enclosure and enhanced acoustics. It would also be cheap as that goal post likeshape is basic engineering. Does anybody want to keep the Williams pillar neck lurch? Williams users may be able to explain that one. If the Atyeo is merged into a fluid bowl like build it will fall into the identified area of "do not likes" identified in ST surveys. The club should have produced some renders of the interior for fans to study. There has not been much detail. The open day last summer was err last summer. Also fans were asked to provide feedback on the designs. What happened to this feedback? Paper planes maybe!
I like the look of it, I prefer multi height stands, to me it gives a stadium character, compared to the many bowl stadiums out there. What is the projected capacity? I can't see them shoe horning in more than 35k, and tbh that would in all likelihood be more than enough.
Only about 27,000. That is why there are some comments about houses on Ashton Road, which will be the only place for future expansion in the (unlikely) event that it is needed.
To complete the bowl effect and increase to 32,000 plus, the Atyeo would need to be totally demolished (no great loss there) and a taller and better structure more in keeping with the rest of the stadium would need to be erected in its place. This is currently a non starter due to the building restrictions.
The last two pictures appear to show two different Dolman stand designs. They cannot be both right and the Wedlock design is incorrect. Any reason why?
These are some of the explainations off of the OTIB boys.. * I think this was the original 4 stage plan mooted. Flicking through the drawings, the Dolman roof design may have changed: In one of the drawings, it extends towards the Atyeo, held up by awkward looking supports in the Atyeo/Dolman Corner. In the other, the existing roof is maintained, albeit extended to cover the lower tier. * As the steps to the Dolman are being removed soon I assume the infill stand between Dolman and Wedlock will be built as part of phase 1 not phase 3. * The early image which depicted the dolman roof canopy near the Atyeo was just that - an image; a visualisation. It didn't appear on any planning document as far as I'm aware. However, there has been a slight modification to the roof design in the recent revision, involving a different support truss for the extension over the lower tier.
I refer to it as the Wedlock because that is its name now. I pre-date the seventies when it became known as the East end, so from now on I'll refer to it as the Covered End as it was when I started!
Always wondered why it was called the East End when it is in fact at the west end. However, lovely ground as it is I can't help thinking it will only blossom into a top stadium when the Atyeo is transformed into a world class stand. Until then, we could use the roof of it as a stage for bands etc
The pitch actually goes from north north-west at the Atyeo end to south south-east at the Covered/Eastend/Wedlock.
