...Officially the best left back in the Championship, well played Aaron.! PFA Championship Team of the Year: Schmeichel (Leicester) Trippier (Burnley) Cresswell (Ipswich) Morgan (Leicester) Shackell (Burnley) Drinkwater (Leicester) Reid (Nottingham Forest) Bryson (Derby) Hughes (Derby) Ings (Burnley) McCormack (Leeds)
Gotta be an extra million on his valuation then... I think this summer he will finally be on his way out to the prem. I think we'll probably get something in the region of £4m for him, which gives us over £3m in the transfer kitty (as Tranmere are entitled to 20%) Hopefully we'll be able to get 2 or 3 good players from that.
With Luke Shaw probably on his way to United i think Southampton is a likely destination for him.! (And a good one)
I spose we have to consider the possibility we may actually start next season with a weaker squad or first XI.
I think we may well have to sell Cressy this summer to fund 2-3 additions to the squad. Mings looks like he will be ok there though TBH. Other than that I would think MM would be very reluctant to let anyone else go, apart from Taylor & possibly Woody.! We are probably looking at close to 4M with those departures so the likelyhood is we can get some quality in to replace.
£4m is not nearly enough, we'd have been up this season if we still had Wickham and Cresswell is more accomplished and experienced. Cresswell is a major piece of the jigsaw.
£4 Million, provided it is put into the transfer kitty, would be plenty enough to fill any gaps that free transfers/youth or fringe promotion cannot fill. Mings at LB and Hewitt at RB is arguably just as good as Cresswell/Chambers. McGoldrick/(fully fit and firing) SEB/Murphy as choices for the front is a more than satisfying choice. With Marriott as potential back up That leaves a £4m budget + anything from selling Woody and Taylor for MM to bring in attacking players of his choice on the wings and in the centre. And its also not beyond the realms of possibility that Pulis may sanction another loan period for Williams, in that eventuality even more money would be freed up to spend on an attacking winger/s. What we would lose though is our only player that could command a transfer fee like that, which would make funds for any additions needed in january/next summer harder to come by which would mean there would be pressure on ensuring the players we use the money on make a real difference.
I think we will lose Cressy, Berra, Loach, Taylor and Edwards this season. I think we will sign Green and Richardson on a permanant deal and also take JW on season long loan, no way is he ready for prem yet!! Not much other than that!!
Oh and aint got a clue about Hunt and SEB, personally not sure either are what we need. We need some real pace in the team, far to slow/pedestrian. Christ, when i look at it that would mean wholesale changes again, thats possibly 7 players departing our already small squad.
Whos to say MM would be given any of these millions that are being bandied around? The wage bill will be lightened quite a bit with all the loan players plus Carlos Edwards leaving, SEB hasnt shown any thing or for that matter Hunt has only shown glimpses of what hes supposed to be able to do, throw in Wordsworth, and Anderson for being so disappointing, Tabb for being immensely disappopinting, Taylor who just doesnt get a game but looks useful and Nouble who everyone loves to see but achieves so very little. Obviously this wont happen but it shows how little quality there is in the side, so lets try and keep the quality we do have and build around them. If we want to improve next season then we have to have a better side than this season and I just dont see how you get that by weakening what you already have.
I doubt we'll get more than £3.5 million for him, fullbacks don't attract that big transfer fees. He's been vital to our season, look at how many assists he's had this season 13 from fullback, that's equal to or more than anyone in the division, we've relied on him so much to create goals this season, he's been our main creative threat losing him and we'd need to add alot of creativity into the team. I hope he stays, he's the best LB I can remember at the club
Cressy has been our most creative player this season probably because he's told the opposite of the others. Whilst he does the defensive side well he's told to get forward but Mick seems to stifle the creativity of others by asking them to do more defensive duties. We're all crying out for creativity but who's to say that if we get decent wingers that they will be allowed to express themselves. Mick rates everybody on workrate above anything else. Personally I think that attackers should be judged on assists, goal scoring chances created and goals whilst defenders should be judged on tackles, clean sheets and reducing the number of chances given away. Sadly this doesn't seem to be the case with Mick.
While I don't like to see our best players go, cash in all day long. Good player, however take what we can with a good sell on like Tranmere have. Have a feeling Hewitt will be a quality player next season, he'll slot in surely. Could he even play CM for us I wonder? Mings at LB worries me to death - I love Mick's defend every team performance / player in public to death, but even he must know Mings is......... well......... hmmm.
According to a certain red top this morning west ham are lining up a derisory 1.5 million bid for Cressy. In current climate 3/4 million all day long.
