Lambert confident Villa will be backed by the fans despite the recent taunts Away fans have turned on the manager but he reckons they will get behind their team on Saturday. Paul Lambert has kicked off the countdown to Saturdayâs crucial survival frightener against Hull by backing the Villa Park faithful to finally inspire Villa to safety. Away fans turned on the manager again during the damaging 4-1 defeat at Swansea, but Lambert is confident Villa can count on the home crowdâs total support against the Tigers. Villa are just three points above the Premier Leagueâs relegation places and host Hull before travelling to Manchester City and Tottenham in the final week of the season. Loud and angry chants of âWe want our Villa backâ, âWe want Lambert outâ and âWhat the ******* hell is this?â were aimed at the manager from fans among the 2,000-strong away following at the Liberty Stadium. But Lambert, who endured similar taunts after the last defeat at Crystal Palace, believes Villa fans will again put their fury aside to cheer on their team in Saturdayâs vital quest for points. Asked if the players could cope with the increasing pressure, Lambert predicted that supporters will help them across the safety line this weekend. âThey know the expectancy level of the football club â itâs huge,â said Lambert. âThey will take it on board, but we need the fans to roar us on next Saturday.â Lambert is prepared to take the flak in order to protect his players during the final three fixtures. âWeâve never shied away from it,â he said. âYou step up to the plate and Iâm the one who is the manager of the football club and Iâm proud of it. âBut itâs my job to protect the lads. They are the ones who go and play the game and, come next Saturday, weâre going to need the supporters.â Questioned about whether his team could still rely on positive support after fans turned on him again at Swansea, Lambert said: âIâve got no doubt about that. âThe supporters come in their thousands, week in, week out. Theyâll get right behind us. I donât have a problem with that sort of thing. âThe most important thing is for Aston Villa to get over the line.â When it was pointed out to Lambert that the fans have been the most consistent thing about the club this season, he remarked: âThey have been great, the supporters are second to none. âNo-one wants the club to be in this position, absolutely no chance. Iâve said it a few times that the club shouldnât be in this position. Itâs too big a football club.â Despite taking just 18 points from a possible 54 at Villa Park this season, Lambert does not believe his team âoweâ the Villa fans a performance, because it is a mutual relationship. âThatâs a bit harsh to say they owe them,â he said. âTheyâre going to need each other. The club needs the support.â Lambert is pleased Villa are still in control of their own fate and has likened Saturdayâs clash against Hull to a âcup finalâ. âThe good thing, if thereâs any good things, is that itâs still in your own hands,â he added. âNext weekâs game is a cup final, thatâs basically it. Thatâs it in a nutshell.â Leandro Bacuna is hoping to recover in time for Saturdayâs match after coming off at half-time in the defeat at Swansea because of illness, with Matt Lowton replacing him at right-back. http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/spo...s/paul-lambert-confident-villa-backed-7039461
You can get tickets in the home ends for as little as £15 on Viagogo! Why are we getting charged £39? Scandalous
Just looked on villatalk and they seem to think if they don't beat us then they're relegated. To be honest I can't see anyone picking up the points to do that, it's 2 wins for Fulham or Cardiff and Sunderland need to pick or the point also. Fulham have a chance at doing it but away at stoke and home to palace is far from easy. I just can't see them pulling it off, likewise Cardiff have Chelsea and Newcastle to play. Just can't see it happening, no matter what result we get at the weekend. Also a draw isn't really much good for them as if the teams below DO manage to pull it off and find the wins then they'll still leapfrog Villa.
it's there arrogance that really p#ss's me off, quote "how the hell have we villa, got into position were we have to get a least a point off dull ,to stay up" hope we turn them over big time ,thanks' rant over.
Two Cup Finals in May, eh? Let's win 'em both then. "Here we go gathering cups in May, cups in May......"
If we can get an early goal, then that will quiet them down , I hope we go for it and play Aluko from the start.
Yes. He'll frighten 'em to death and, even if he doesn't score, I can see him opening things up for Long and Jelly.
I remember back in early 1999 when we played Villa in the 3rd round of the Cup (the Thriller at the Villa as HDM classed it) . They were very close to the top of the PL and we were bottom of the 3rd div. We got beat 3-0, Collymore bagging a brace. I'll never forget their fans taking the piss at our lowly league standing as opposed to their lofty status singing "We'll meet again, etc" Well 15 years later it would be nice to get one over on them and give them a chorus in return. All good things come to he who waits.
Nothing against Villa. Couldn't give a toss what they're fans sing. Just want us to be as comfortable as possible. 40 points for the season would be brilliant.
I want 40 points,so a win at Villa park would do very nicely. Besides,I've a mate who's a big Brum fan so it's SOTV KRO from me... It would be nice to actually get a goal against them too..
I remember going there and we lost 6-0 not one of our best hunting grounds. Would love to get one over on them this time round.
With Hull City now safe it is time for Fryatt - Sagbo and Aluko to start the game. Let us get after them from the off. Villa look so open nowadays at the back.
Well the squad have been given today and tomorrow off (at least Long has) so I think Brucie reckons we are
That'll be me then bd - several years ago my, ahem, hairstyle came to the choice of either, a dodgy comb-over (due to coinciding with the Gregor Fisher Hamlet ad I discounted that) or biting the bullet and shaving it all off to become the oldest skinhead in town !
