I'd agree with a Director of football approach. Monk is not yet ready IMO for full control. However, he could be groomed for the future, if he's willing to let that happen. Now he's got a taste of the role he may not want to give it up.
He'd rip them out and replace them with a few seance tables. I have a feeling Bony will be with us next season and I agree with Roof, defence needs serious attention.
If and when Bony goes we will still need to replace him with a 12-15 goal striker. £12 mill is a steal in this day and age. If sensible spending in your context is buying cheap then we can all look forward to being relegated. You know the saying pay peanuts get monkeys. In this case pay championship prices/salaries get championship players. If there is one thing ML stated that is a FACT is we need to improve the squad every season just to stand still. Spending more doessnt necessarily equate to not being sensible. But if HJ and the board think 12 mill is too much for a striker that can deliver that amount of goals per season than we might aswell pack up and go back to the lowere leagues now
If I was Monk I would bring in an attacking midfielder in the mold of Bodde, as a replacement for Michu, but a real general, then I would look at a new Center back, and hopefully if we can get Emnes permanent, then that leaves Ki, who I would keep, but I think we might well sell. I'm not convinced on keeping De Guzman, would love us to bring Borini back if he's going out of Liverpool at half price, which is what I have heard!......... One thing I do know is that it's going to be a busy summer for us.........
We are not a big club like the Manchester and the liverpools of the premiership, They can sustain any losses if they buy flops for big bucks, we cant and don't need to spend huge amounts on anyone, the right type of player is more important than splashing the cash on a dud. We have been very lucky with bony but that don't mean we will be lucky on the next £12 million player, Its the wages that cause more friction at a club than anything else and we dont want to go down the qpr route where it has cost them millions they have got to keep paying out because they went crazy and paid well over the top for players who have now left the club but are still getting paid. We should keep within a maximum pay structure and buy accordingly and not go over the top. It has always worked for us and will continue to work for us.
I am afraid Dai you are wrong, as the Striker position is critical to any team at this level and comes at a premium, your Michu's of this world are very rare and even he wasn't a center forward, so if we want to maintain our Premier League cash cow, then it is the one position that we will have to make the exception for, and I'm pretty sure Jenkins understands that too. I'm not saying that we will have to always pay £12 Million but £5 Million simply buys you a Danny Graham!.................
Yes it is but can you be sure the next £12 million player will give the same return. you cant and that is why jinx is right that we have got to return to the swansea way.
That is bullshit dragon and you know it, what if danny had cost us £12 million we would be right in the ****. for every bony success there are more players who are flops and we got lucky. I agree that a good striker will cost the most but that most should be within our maximum and not over the top. A £8 million striker is just as good as a £18 million player if he fits out type of playing style and his wages would be a great deal lower. The minute you start paying a player more than the rest of his team mates is the time you are asking for trouble and we don't want to do that. What if bony was a flop what then? he will still be on more wages than the rest and how do you think the players will feel about that, they will be queuing at jinx's door wanting a better deal or they will be off....Its ok for the Big clubs because of the nature of who they are but for us then you have got to work in the clubs budget and not be tempted to break that budget for any reason. we have been very lucky but im glad now the financial side of things will be back in jinx's hands and we can carry on knowing we will not break the bank that could put the club at risk if it goes wrong. We have done ok in the premiership before bony and we will continue to find the right players to be a force and a club that is envied by others....
Yes indeed, he was hot headed, and should have stayed, but his off field habits didn't go down well at the club, but he did get us goals..........
He had far to many barren runs to be a success and we could not afford to keep playing him as a lone striker up front, It was lucky we had borini and sigs at the time he was with us to bale him out or we would be in trouble. He was a tidy guy who was not consistent enough for premiership football..
If the other team players are too thick to understand the issues of the striker position then they should not be in our team, anyway how would we pay £12 Million for a Championship Striker? and who is saying to pay over the top? I'm certainly not, all I'm recognizing is the issues of a Quality striker at this level. Regarding the clubs Budget, when have we not worked within it? and as for the 'financial side of things' it's never been out of 'jinx's hands', you do worry me on times Dai, you get a 'thing' in your head, and all reasoning goes out the window?....................
Dai it was Michu that got Graham on the bench, Borini was at Liverpool, and Sigs was at Spurs, it was Laudrup that would not guarantee him front lines starts...........
Danny Graham scored 12 goals his first season with us I think , not many less than Bony really .This isnt a dig at Bony , its a dig at those that dug at Graham
Dragonphil is correct. You have to spend decent money at this level for key positions like strikers. The Michus of this world are as rare as hen's teeth. I take the point that there are many flops out there and you can get burned (van Wolfswinkel?) but we didn't "get lucky" with Bony. It was a calculated purchase based on good scouting that included his excellent record in the Eredivisie. It also included an assessment of whether he would fit with our style of play. That's taken some work but he got there in the end. I fear that if Jenkins goes back to pennypinching in key areas just because he's managed to pull it off in the past his (and our) luck will run out.
Huge clubs can but clubs like ours cant and wages is a big issue with clubs of our size, We see it every season where the smaller clubs get in a mess. Look at the championship and division one and you will see far bigger clubs than us down there who have got into a mess through over spending. We are where we are through sensible well controlled wage policy and we need to get back to that before it gets out of control and we end up like the bigger clubs in the lower leagues. Any business can spend like mad to get where they want to be but they go bust because they cannot sustain the wages and they end up laying people off ar worst go out of business, this is the problem Rangers have got in Scotland, they bought big players for lots of money and gave them good contracts and look at them today, they are skint and in danger of going out of business completely. Look at leeds, qpr, sheffield clubs and a lot more, they all got in financial trouble because they could not sustain the wages they were paying out and they ended up relegated or in administration and docked points. You don't need to over spend to be successful as we are proof of that. and we should heed our experience and not think that because we have a few quid we should splash out and destroy our finely tuned wage structure because its too risky and could put us in the situation that bigger clubs than us have found to their cost.
Dai why do you go from one extreme to another! We need to step up and reach the next level or we're only going to go one way! IMO we need a RB, Wing player and a decent Striker. If no one leaves. There are strong rumours going around that pozuelo and Canas will be shipped out, witch I find disappointing because they are both decent players. I'd rather see us get a manager that has instant respect and lifts spirits because it will help us keep our better players. I like monk but I think he is a massive risk for the permanent job. Unity with a strong leader is what we're missing! And to pick monk seems like the board was picking sides. Also to freeze players out And telling them that they will never play for Swansea again is real **** management. (If true) I'm really pissed off with the club because we as fans deserve to know what is going on and what went on to justify some of their decisions this season, I feel that they are mugging us off ATM! I don't mean we need to know the little bits of politics but the big issues that are causing extreme reactions.
My opinion we need: Striker in the shane Long mould (Emnes fits that bill just need to see more of him at this level to be convinced) Wing players, Norwich if they go down have some decent ones Snodgrass for his crossing ability alone would be class and I like Redmond Midfield we already have quality Ki, Leon, shelvey, Canas, michu, Pozuelo, keep JDG. Just needs a bit of unity. Defence needs a little shuffle a RB would be enough. As I think we have a decent defense that just needs better organisation.
Wilfried has been great this season and you can bet your bottom dollar that his agent will be after an improved contract for him.So does the board refuse to grant him one? I think not-unless they have a replacement in mind.Donnelly perhaps? Peanuts ,monkeys !!!!
