Ok then “I must admit that being a Geordie came back to haunt me, “In fairness it was a minority of Sunderland fans who abused me but it was way over the top and very hurtful. I can’t change my upbringing. I am who I am and proud of it. But I paid a big price." Steve Bruce April 2012 “When you were doing okay, everything was okay. I was fine. I was fine six months before when Sunderland finished tenth. Then all of a sudden, within four months, I’m a horrible Geordie b*****d." Steve Bruce July 2012 "'I took over a team that had avoided relegation on the last day,' he said. 'We finished 13th in the first year, 10th in the second, balanced the books and then I got the sack after 11 games. Of course it hurt me. I thought I'd get a chance and it didn't happen." Steve Bruce, May 2013 "In hindsight maybe going there was a mistake, being a Newcastle fan as a boy …some would never forgive that," he said. "I wouldn't say it was the utmost reason but for a lot of them" Steve Bruce, Oct 2013 And most importantly; “What I felt about my time at Sunderland and how it all ended has gone for me now,” Steve Bruce, Feb 2014 And for a bit of fun "Steve Bruce blamed: being a Geordie. Steve Bruce blamed: striker changes. Steven Bruce blamed: Sunderland fans for coming “in their thousands”. Steve Bruce blamed… pretty much everyone but himself. That’s the tagline to the Tumblr page set up to collect Bruce’s many and increasingly bizarre post-match excuses for Sunderland’s shambolic form. Its tone is tame by comparison to the treatment he received during Saturday’s last-gasp defeat to Wigan at the Stadium of Light. Were the chants of “fat Geordie b*****d” warranted? Probably not. But it’s not hard to see why the SoL had lost patience: three home wins in 2011; two places above the drop-zone; 30 signings in two years; £25 million spent this season. Bruce’s arrival in 2009 was met with an approving shurg. He came with a decent record at Wigan, making some deft signings during his time in charge. The only difference at Sunderland was he had money to spend. Proper money. In came Michael Turner, Lorik Cana and Lee Cattermole. With them, came the pivital player in Bruce’s reign on Wearside: Darren Bent. Led by an in-form Bent, Sunderland sparkled in the opening months of the 2009/10 season – including a beach ball-assisted three points at home to Liverpool and a win against Arsenal. Shortly after which, it all went tits up: 14 games, from November to March, without a single win. A 13th-place finished seemed to flatter our end-of-season form. Bruce spent – relatively – big again the following summer, including a record signing: Asamoah Gyan. Once again, we made a decent start; once again, we faltered: Sunday 31 October 2010 – that defeat. But Bruce kept his job and the lads bounced back. From one of the worst performances in living memory to one of the best: the 3-0 spanking of Chelsea on their own overpriced turf. This form was not to be repeated. The remainder of the season brought with it nine games without a win, but a – slight – return to form in the closing stages saw Sunderland finish a respectable 10th. 2011′s pre-season was full of optimism. Again. Sebastian Larsson, John O’Shea, Wes Brown and David Vaughan all looked like quality signings, while Connor Wickham and Ji Dong-Won were both exciting prospects. A promising season lay ahead. But a home defeat to Them up the Road and a Bent-esqe mercenary move to the UAE by Gyan set the tone for the weeks ahead. The rest is history. Why did Steve Bruce get sacked? Was it down to Bent? Was it the defeats to the Mags? Or was it Gyan’s departure? “Sadly results this season have simply not been good enough and I feel the time is right to make a change,” said Ellis Short. It’s as simple as that. Had we been playing well this season, picking up points as we should have done, Bruce would still be in charge and all those things would have been forgotten. With the players we’ve got, we should be doing better than we are. Much better. Who’s next? Martin O’Neil’s always mentioned – although, as likeable as he is, his glory days at Leicester were over a decade ago and Celtic isn’t the toughest of managerial challenges. Other bookie’s shouts include Mark Hughes, Rafa Banitez, Walter Smith and, at 20/1, the baby-faced assassin himself, Ole Gunnar Solskjær. As for Brucey, he’ll probably get a chance at the top-level again. But for blowing it at Sunderland, he has only has himself to blame." Gary Evans Dec 2011
It's simply because he's our manager now and we love him. Clearly, you have some issues around him, but I can't think of a single Hull City supporter with anything bad to say about him. I guess it's similar to the situation with Nigel Pearson; Leicester fans love him but some of us can't stand the **** because of the graceless manner in which he departed.
To be fair, you're spoiled for choice looking for red geordie clowns. They post the same ****e, no matter how much you explain about the importance of context with quotes, then just hurl childish "insults".
The Phallus living up to his name. Cock. "We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid" Benjamin Franklin Sunday evening, 2030 & you're still working hard. Good job. Do the windows need doing?
On the plus side, six points guaranteed next season if the Rokerites are staying up. Altidonkey as captain, please.
And how hard you must work, Ben. Do you recall when we didn't have a pot to piss in and we needed loan players to keep us going; who was a mainstay in helping us out? Do you have nothing better to do with your ****ing sad life than drop to this level? It's way beyond cringe worthy and you should be embarrassed. Remind us all of these 'issues' with Sunderland supporters, will you? ****ing bullshit merchant. Most of the bullshit between the clubs was born on the back of Phil brown and the usual tosspots (on both sides) stirring it up between the clubs due to his boyhood allegiance. Before that there was nothing but goodwill between the clubs. I don't mind banter, but some of this is beyond the pale and it disgusts me. No, I haven't gone native; I simply have a sense of perspective and no need to big it up hidden behind a keyboard.
Could you please get a grip on reality and calm down - what kind of utter crap is this to be writing about anyone from anywhere? We are doing well; Sunlan have had a good day too. Can you just leave it at that - the world will continue to turn long after Hull and Sunderland and everywhere else have had their day. Just enjoy life and relax.
Not been working too hard recently, but still getting paid, which is all that matters. Yes I'm guessing my life isn't as sad as yours. Although unlike you with mine, I don't give a **** about yours. Same old with you Fez, nobody but you is ever right. You can call people down, tell them they're ****s or that they're talking bullshit but if anybody else does it they're wrong. Read your own post I'm quoting for confirmation. Now, to be frank, if you don't like it, **** off or don't read it you sanctimonious twat. Embarrassed? get to ****, it's an internet forum, people talk bollocks, you're up there with the best, your mouth is overflowing with testicles what with all boring bollocks you spout out of it. My original post was obviously, even to the most ******ed, tongue in cheek, sorry if it whooshed above your simple, humour free, northern heads. I guess you're not as equally incensed by this? " I hope you all get ****ing crabs, of your sisters." The tit set the tone, I played along. Then there was this "Bet you are ugly as ****, but middle aged family members might laugh at you, if forced. Sad ****." Or this "like this bellend" or maybe this "Are you 12? You are a dull, boring, witless sad ****" Bit selective in your criticism Fez but as I find you irrelevant I'll not highlight the fact. I'm not here to please you Fez, Trying to? Now that would be embarrassing.
Just another load of pathetic bollocks; unintelligible nonsense. Look back at the history of the two clubs and you might realise there is more to be admired than rubbished, simply because you can. To be honest, your response is exactly what I expected; well done!
I don't drink (anymore) I don't see what the problem is, I'd be shocked if people can't see my original post is tongue in cheek. All I've done is respond in the same manner I was responded to. Fez obviously pipes in protecting his own, but ignoring the ****e they post but did a good job in highlighting a little hypocrisy with this little gem" "Do you recall when we didn't have a pot to piss in and we needed loan players to keep us going; who was a mainstay in helping us out?" Pity he doesn't remember where we were when our current owners bailed us out & apply the same values to them. Like I say, I'm laughing my little widger off at peoples reactions to what was an obvious non serious post. It is disappointing that only my responses are being picked up on & not the bollocks I was responding to.
Yeah but we love Gus, we don't give a **** what Brighton fans think of him, We loved Reidy, we didn't give a **** what city thought of him, you see the pattern here. You lot are like the girlfriend who's jealous of the ex. We hold Bruce partly responsible and it's hilarious that some of you lads just can't deal with it. Do we stop blaming MoN because it might upset a Leicester fan? Or PDC in case Swindon fans become upset? It's daft man, give your heads a shake. We'll always talk about ex managers good or bad, it's our history and our right.
See that **** Campbell was diving again – well, greatly exaggerating the contact with Wes Brown. He dived last week against Stoke too. Must admit I was sort of hoping we might get Wickham on the cheap in the summer. No chance now.
Struggling to recall the time when Sunderland markedly helped us out with players. I recall them lending us Michael Reddy in the 90s – but he was no real help and quickly fell out of pro football not long after. Did they lend us one or two other ineffectual young players around this time too? Maybe I’m forgetting someone decent. Sunderland usually do pretty well out of us transfer wise. We bought ****ing John Moore from ‘em for cash. They diddled us on the Tony Norman deal too. Also, the Turner deal (even though in hindsight that fee was alright, it still relegated us).
