Unlucky today lads. Sounds cliched but you are the neutral's choice (for no real reason other than the fact that you havent won it for ages) and you could still definitely win it. But you cannot criticise Chelsea today. It is a compliment to you that they played the way they did, as they have every right to. And I am sorry, but whether you like it or not, Jose did a number on Brendan today. He knew that you would come out like a bull at a gate and his team did everything to slow the game down for the first half hour/40 minutes. You could call it cynical, you could call it gamesmanship. I just call it intelligent. The game I was watching you could have still been playing now and you probably wouldnt have scored. If 'parking the bus' was easy, All the lesser teams would do it every game and big teams would never win. The simple fact is playing the way Chelsea did today takes extreme organisation, discipline and teamwork. It certainly isnt easy, and there arent many teams or many managers who could be drilled and professional enough to pull it off at Anfield. It was Brendan's job and Liverpool's job to find a way to break them down, and on this occasion they didn't. I can understand how frustrating it must be, but the right and proper thing is simply to dust yourselves down and keep fighting. Remember City have to go to Goodison.....
I am puzzled about this: Liverpool needed only 1 point really to maintain control of our destiny. Chelsea needed to win. A draw would have been useless for them. Yet we played as if we needed to win and Chelsea played as if they would be happy with a draw. We could have just played out a dour draw and get the point we needed. Win against Palace and Newcastle (perfectly doable ) and the title would have been ours.
I've seen a load of crappy set pieces watching football, but that Aspas corner took the biscuit. That was the worst corner in the history of football.
It would have been a dour draw were it not for that huge slip from Gerrard. Only after that did we go into ultra attack mode. And we don't play for draws anyway. That's not what we're about
Ermmmmm, have you not seen our results lately? Liverpool are still massive favourites for me. Both teams will win their remaining fixtures, but Liverpool should rack up a hatful against Palace and especially us. We have been the worst team in the league since January by a mile, and conceded a ****load against much poorer teams than Liverpool. It's still in your hands.
At least even his bad ones go into the box. He didn't just pass it across the floor to a Chelsea player who had the chance to break. Cmon, this is terrible!!
I never thought that I would be reading such defeatist bollox on this board, yes the Liverpool board! It's not over yet FFS! Stop feeling sorry for yourselves and get behind your fooking team for the remaining 2 games! You've had a brilliant season and it isn't over yet!
Everyone's just deflated and having a massive comedown fella. What do you expect after the high last 11 weeks! Some dank ****. Back to feeling like we're still in the megabucks oil baron monopoly. On the upside we're underdogs again, and we do well as underdogs.
It's not though, we win the last two and Citeh win their last three they win it. Simples. They have to drop points now, nothing we can do about it.
They win on goal difference though. Not through having more points. 6 against crystal palace then 6 against Newcastle and city winning their next 3 by only a goal will mean we win. Simples
If City win all 3 of their games, we'll need at least 11 goal difference from 2 games to win the league on GD, not going to happen. Especially when you know City will win at least 1 of those games by more than goal. Our best chance is Everton getting something from City at Goodison. And they have Jagielka, Distin, Barry & Mirallas missing. A centre back partnership of Alcaraz & Stones will not be able to cope with City's attack. Plus they'll be missing Barry, a key player, in midfield and Mirallas in attack.
They are on 77 points, you are on 80. You would both be level on 86 in that eventuality. If they win each of their last games by 1 goal, that's +61 GD. If you beat Palace by 4, which is not inconceivable, even at home, I would not rule out a resounding win against our side, who have given up completely and have put in a series of utterly pathetic displays. Of course it's more likely Liverpool will win due to a Citeh slip up, but genuinely, the topscorers in the league are playing 2 poor teams which I expect them to beat comfortably. Citeh have the much harder games, my money is on Merseyside still.
Yes but this is football and anything can happen! Citeh are far from perfect themselves and there will be at least one more twist before the seasons out!
True! But they're playing West Ham, who are really poor away from home & Aston Villa, who have been dire for a long time and are without their only real attacking threat Benteke. Both at home, I doubt they'll drop points there. Only chance is Everton who have a lot of players missing and really won't fancy doing us a favour And we still have to win a tough fixture at Crystal Palace.
Basically... we're ****ed. That's how I see it, sorry to those who still believe. Wish I could still be in that camp. City won't lose now and can't see us getting any more crushing wins. They were heady times.
We need to build on this squad and use the frustration of today's result as motivation for next season to go one better in the league and actually win it next season
West Ham and Villa still need points to survive and just look at what Sunderland did at the Etihad last game! You are still very much in with a shout and all is not lost far from it!
