Baines too, and Clichy/Kolarov rarely disappoint. It's funny that England have 4 really good Left Backs.

Well done to both players. Slap a £50 million price tag on Lallana as he is almost irreplaceable at the moment in the Southampton line-up!! Brilliant that he has been allowed to build-up his footballing nous in League 1 and the Championship and has continued the momentum in the Premiership. So well done Lallana and Southampton for allowing that to happen.

5 of the 10 nominees are English, so perhaps the crisis is not so bad after all.

Well done to Adam who has been incredibly consistent this season and has improved so much. Well done to Shaw for being the youngest in that group and the only defender.

Bit vague, but I'm guessing you're on about England's left backs? Bainea has been brilliant the last few seasons, Shaw is really good and has great potential, albeit some overrate him slightly, Cole is still good despite not being in the regular 11 for Chelsea and Gibbs, until recently, has been part of an Arsenal side with a very good defence.

By merit suarez and sturridge should take the 2 groups respectively. Lallana and luke have been immense but I can't see a neutral picking lallana ahead of suarez. Different players obviously but suarez is on course to break records.

Lets not take anything away from either of them though, on another year they would both win.

What a fabulous honour for our club. Very well done to the two boys. Very well done to Pochettino, the academy staff and a little mention for Nigel; well done for giving Luke the start.

    Come on you Saints

Completely agree with that actually. He's great running into space and very solid defensively, got to work on his distribution/ crosses for me though.

Gibbs is pretty average isn't he? Not a better fullback than Walker, Clyne, Johnson, no one's raving that we have those three to pick from at right back! Cole has been one of the few solid performers for England, but is not a regular starter for Chelsea anymore so is probably past it in all honesty. Baines has to be England's first choice lb, also he can take a pen, corners, free kicks.

Been watching Luke much more closely since the New Year, mainly because I've been able to download full 90 minute games and can go back and watch the odd thing in real detail. Luke has impressed me enormously on how good he is defensively. Occasionally, he gets caught out of position, but he's so fast he can get make up for it most of the time. The only player I've seen beat Luke for pace was Gareth Bale and that was last season, and Luke has grown a bit since then. And besides, Bale would outpace practically anybody. Yes, Luke occasionally chooses the wrong cross to make, and sometimes he plays the ball into the danger area rather than picking out a player. To a certain extent it's not his fault that the player isn't running onto the dangerous cross, but Saints are going to score just because the cross looks good. Sometimes it simply has to go to the receiving player.

The good thing about Luke is that one can see his progression. He actually makes steps forward with each match he plays in, and that's fantastic. If he keeps up his progress it won't be long before he's way better than any other LB in the country. For now though, Baines is still out there.

"Fast" can be deceiving. He probably thinks he isn't quick in a 100m sprint, but his speed of thought and reaction to a situation in the first half a yard may make him appear quick. If you read the interview with Morgan where he says Adam likes to always be facing the goal after his first touch will often by him a yard or two of space and if he pushes into it and passes or shoots, this will also make him look quick.

I suspect Suarez will win PFA player of the year. Shaw could win Young PFA though.

Interesting stats. Clearly, he is being his usual modest self when it comes to his own efforts. Not only does he cover the yards, but he's way in excess of everyone in that table when it comes to energy sapping sprints, and look at his average and top speeds while he's doing them. His average speed is faster than everyone else, so while he covers much yardage, he's doing at a greater energy sapping level. Plus his top speed is almost as quick as the quickest there. He's no slouch by any means.

I remember some wag on this forum, somewhen during the Championship season, stating that Lallana had no pace at all. He was roundly shouted down. Well, here's the proof.

Haven't seen enough of him to comment, but Luke has had an amazing season for an 18 year old.
