question: if you pull someone's shirt outside the area (a la lundekvam) and the player falls in the area but their shirt was so stretchy that you were never inside the area while holding their shirt, is it a penalty?

I can't understand the objection to awarding a penalty when shirt-pulling starts outside the area. If you're running into the area and your shirt is pulled, you're going to try and stay on your feet, and the referee will play advantage, but once you get into the area, unless you have a clear opportunity to score regardless, the advantage is very unlikely to be more desirable than a penalty, so a good referee will surely award the penalty?

As I said before, if you're pulling someone's shirt and they're going into the box, if you don't want to concede a penalty then either pull them with enough force that they can't continue, or let go before they cross the line! It's not rocket science is it?

Sounds reasonable to award a penalty if shirt clutching continues into the box.

Well in, ya Mackems. A controversial penalty isn't so important if you've scored four.

Thing is the rule states 'any incident that carries on into the area will result in a pen'. That is the bit I don't agree with.

Cardiff were never in the bottom three whilst Malky Mackay was in charge. Sobering thought there.

but crystal palace were and they would still have soared up the table.

edit: when malky left west ham and palace were below. both went on exceptional runs.

What if a player picked the ball up and carried it into the area?

Harder to imagine really, there's generally only one discrete moment of contact so it's easier to judge a single point where the foul happened.

Oh dear, Chelsea upsetting the party.

When asked a couple of weeks ago who I wanted to win the title out of Liverpool, Chelsea and ManC, I said Liverpool. But actually, the BBC's Liverpool pundits have already started to get a little too smug, and have turned me right off the idea. I don't care now, and I'm quite enjoying the little ding-dong that's happening.
