It wouldn't surprise me in Buttner went to Saints as part of the deal. He was coveted by us before he signed for Utd.

I'm amazed that Lallana seems so under-appreciated by Utd fans.

I don't think he's as good as Valencia was at his peak, Valencia was a world class right winger a few years back. He used to tear some of the best fullbacks apart, Ashley Cole for example used to get embarrassed by him everytime we played the Chavs.

However for the last couple of seasons he's been dreadful, I really cannot understand how a player that is still only 28 can have regressed so badly

Breaking your ankle will do that. I believe also another serious injury to the same ankle within a year after breaking it. Injuries are what have dragged Valencia down. His top assets was his power and pace, which he doesn't seem to have anymore.

Lilliana's a good player, better than Valencia young and Nani, but if we're paying £25m for him we should just cough up the extra cash for Rues, who is a better and younger winger. IMO.

100 million is a lot of money, but to get Hummels, Reus, Kroos and Strootman I'd be suprised if it stretched that far. Don't we still need a left back too though? Unless Evra is hanging around for another season, or Van Gaal likes Buttner, who I don't think is a bad player. Still would prefer Shaw if possible

Yeh that figure changes all the time. I'd be happy if we could just get Kroos and Hummels out of them. I reckon Carvalho is done. That leaves a left back :)

Can the deals actually be done before the market opens though? As Carvalho was a Moyes target so Van Gaal may wanna spend the 35 million elsewhere:biggrin:

Course they can - Hernandez signed for us in April IIRC.

The deals, contracts, wages etc can all be agreed and signed at any point, they just have to wait until the 1st July to transfer the registration. Tho' it is quite rare to actually carry out a large deal that early - most clubs will agree it all in principle and not actually put pen to paper until the window is open in case the player gets injured, manager gets sacked etc. It would usually only be for one like Hernandez, where we'd found an unnoticed player and didn't want his value shooting up after the WC.

Well we going to be linked with some Dutch players should LVG come in to the club and he seems most likely should he be relagated with his club and with Kagawa and Fellaini possibly leaving why not.

Rather keep Kagawa then have that Spurs reject.

    Exactly.

The reason why not is he's patently not good enough. We've got to aim higher than that ffs.

There's a case for buying at least one winger. But with all the expense of buying midfielders and defenders, maybe there's an opportunity to buy a diamond in the rough. Thoughts on Ben Arfa? I've always liked him as a footballer - technical skill, runs at defenses, pace and he wouldn't break the bank either. I'm surprised there aren't clubs being linked with him tbh.
