Definitely - and good he went to the board for their opinion! Hopefully this shows he is learning, and willing to take on other's opinions!

I think it is sheer coincidence that the cheapest option is a decent option.

If Dyche had the personality of Neil Warnock and the managerial nous of Dave Bassett, he would still have been high on Dasani's list, due to the low price tag. Fortunately, he is a fantastic person, and seems competent enough.

Wasn't in my top five choices for the job, but we all know what they say about beggars' choices...

I will obviously get behind Dyche and the team, but I fear it'll be a long season.

I hope Dyche does well - as everyone has preety nuch said, the continuity is the big plus.

Touching on the problem of Cowie - I must be honest, I always thought he would be sold this summer because of his contract which if I'm not mistaken is running down and he hasn't wanted to extend it. So I expected Cowie & Graham to go but not Buckley. I just can't see a club like ours allowing a player to run his contract out. The McGinn injury has obviously caused a problem logisticly as he won't be back for some time and even then, will he be the same or better player? This is a key decision for the club and my money is on a sale for not a huge price for Cowie.

I am with what seems to be the consensus. Yes this may have been the cheap option and he is inexperienced at this level however, he is a club man like we all wanted. He has worked his way up through all the youth ages and has had a couple of years as the no. 2 so he is not a complete rookie. Also, from his time with the youth he will have a very good level of knowledge of a lot of players who will be making up the squad which really is important (well provided that they got on with him). He should already know the flaws in the squad and can now put any ideas into effect.

On the transfer front, that is all done outside the coaching set-up it seems but there is no reason to doubt there will be continuity there.

One final point on Bassini, it is clear that GT has had some input here as well as the rest of the Board. Realistically, was there a better shout out there? Probably not, so he does deserve a bit on praise for wrapping this up quickly and listening to people in the know.

Dasani deserves credit for making the call quickly. I'll give him that, but only that.

Hope Cowie doesn't go, but could see it happening especially if CC come calling. I am delighted Dyche has the job! Anyone who has seen him work with the youngsters will know he has terrific man management skills and can coach with the best of em. His temperament also seems made for the type of uphill battles we will likely face over the next season or so. In terms of transfers, it's positive that we have brought in Forsyth and hopefully we will see good things form him next season, but the most important thing for us as a club is Harefield. Dyche knows Harefield, knows it's product and is used to working with it, more importantly (and with "continuity" seemingly being the word of the day) he represents the maintenance of a clear sight line for the youngsters to the first team, so I'd expect to see Murray and Massey in and around the squad/team this season. How much either of them will be worth in the next couple of years, only time will tell, but with the way the Prem Lge want to change the Academy set-up for teams in England, the most prize assets we have at the club are likely those we have caught mere glimpses of or, have not heard of yet. If for each set of 12-15 boys we intake we sell one of them for a million plus down the line, then the club will continue on something of a sustainable and even footing over time. In between times, we can expect the same high's and low's we always go through, which make us love and support our club.

As for next season, well, I'm guardedly optimistic, as I was before last season. Fourth from bottom and/or 52 points (safety in other words), while not good enough for some, would in my eyes be a success, remember we likely head into the season with one of the youngest squads, a relatively small playing budget and the loss of our Talisman. A new striker, a new left back and perhaps one loanee of real quality and we could see a similar season to last season. You also need the intangible of a little bit of luck. Assuming we can keep a core together, then we may only be two to three seasons away from mounting a serious assault on the play-offs.

Have to say despite all of the negativity surrounding him, Bassini seems to have made nothing but realistic and sensible noises/choices, both in the media and in his dealings. Look out for the appointment of Ross Wilson to pay dividends in the next couple of seasons also. There is always more to Watford FC than meets the eye.

    COYH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Appointing Dyche isnt just the "cheap option", in a footballing sense its the best thing for the club. Dyche knows the inner workings of the club, he knows the players - an outsider would have needed time to bed in, but SD can just continue the good work that Malky started. And dont forget that he'll have GT to call upon for advice.

We were never going to get a "name" in (Hughton, Zola etc), it had to be someone cheap - and id much rather that someone was a young man who knows the club.

No real surprise...already at the club so knows the limitations of us unlike some outsiders who might be put off by the lack of funds etc.

Lack of experience management wise ofcourse but then we've gone down the route of appointing fresh managers a few times and its worked to an extent.

Any new manager of players gets my support...the poor guy has only just got the role so be harsh to be critical now.

I agree with most of that. Dyche might well have been the best candidate. But whether he was the best or not, he was certainly the cheapest credible one.

If you were a football manager what would you look for from the fans? Criticism and negativity before a ball is struck really helps the club....Not!!!

I am very happy with this appointment, things could have been a lot worse given some of the rumours, we've been saved from someone like Keane who would have been completley wrong for the club. We have a manager who has worked under the 4 previous managers in different roles and I'm sure he has learnt plenty. With GT to guide him I think things could turn out well
