Hi Fran - been a long time on here for me - hope you are well - l was watching the game today in Dubai praising the virtues of Adam to a bunch of guys saying how he spoke with Matt Le T a couple of years ago and how he would never leave is - totally gutted by the article. But do feel that a lot of the squad will be watching what Pooch does; now NC not here - too much uncertainty...

Reading too much into Adam's words; he was simply batting away questions about his future, and it's very likely that Saints have already had informal talks with him. if they do "sit down in the summer", then it's probably about signing a long, lucrative deal which guarantees his best years are at Saints.

Let's hope United do brilliantly under Giggs (apart from vs us) and Van Gaal goes to Spurs.

Have to say that Mauricio looked very relaxed and enjoying his little joke (as was David, who struggled to keep a straight face).

I have twin daughters who are two years old and, as every parent knows, the first word they learn is no! Its not so hard to give a negative spin on a question; only he chose not to... sorry to disagree but he is the captain after all and that role is meant to mean something, but perhaps I am being old fashioned which means a position means you need to think not just about yourself but the role you have within a team, be that football or otherwise.

I suppose if you want to spin it the other way, you could say he is just towing Les Reed's party line.

Para... "Finish the season, then talk and see what comes of it here at SFC"

I don't think it's old-fashioned, but look at the alternatives. He could say in reply that he is totally committed to Southampton and will never leave but the facts are that football doesn't work that way. If Saints received a ludicrous offer for Adam in the summer, the board might decide to sell him and he might not want to go, but go he would. I can also remember Gerrard having contract negotiations at one point and he said that he hoped that everything could be sorted quickly, not that he would never, ever leave. He didn't want to go but there was a deal to be done. Adam has already shown intent by the length of the contract he signed last time.

Agreed CF but that comes back to my first post; what Pooch does will impact on what the players do. If he goes, I do think that the players will start to look around. I actually think that Pooch resigning is the most important deal for us this Summer.

I live in Dubai, the wife and children live in Uganda - its a complicated story but basically at my age with kids so young you need to go where the tax-free money is to prepare for their future. The girls were born in the UK and the cost of living ( childcare specifically meant we had to make some long term plans - suffice to say it hurts alot)

Please hyphenate that to "re-signing" - the thought of him resigning gives me palpitations....

He has one year left on his contract; he did state in the press that he would consider his position after NC left the club; hence the thread about what he might do this Summer; palpitations is certainly a fair assessment of the situation LT!

I'm going to look the positives, and will list them as follows:

Huge emotional attachment for KL (as RK informed). The performances will show how close we are to greatness. How could she not want to invest more?

The right noises are coming from upstairs anyway.

The right noises are coming from the players, i.e. many saying how great it is here and how we all need to stay together.

    Poch looks happy.

Things can obviously change quickly in football, we all know that, but overall its looking promising, and I usually take a slightly pessimistic view. Some of the best money spent my be on contracts to keep what we have. But obviously the players will want to push on to the next level and will want assurances that some quality comes through the door. Didn't the club say they have provision for that?

That must be tough. I guess as you say, you do what you have to do when raising kids. All the best to you.

Monk on SaintsWeb, who you may remember from the summer, saying he's heard about Poch.

Suggestion is there is a 7 (yes, seven) year deal on offer if he wants it. Surprising if so.
