If it's Van Gaal Rooney could be on the bench, as RVPs back up. Unless we play Rooney out wide. Van Gaal plays the Dutch and now Barcelona brand of total football. A 433 system with 2 wingers and only 1 striker. He will not play a 442 to keep anyone happy, as 433 is the style he believes in, and is the style that has brought him success over the years. So a few of our players could be being shown the door. It will certainly be interesting to see how Van Gaal goes about fitting the players we have into that system

 

Mata will be happy with that. Tbh we played some of our best football in an adaptable 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 formation from 07/08 to 08/09. Also bear in mind that reports are that LVG looks at playing ethos/tradition of the clubs he joins so lets see...

 

As he is a big name manager, he should attract big name players.

 

Van gaal doesnt havr a formation he has a philosophy.

442 451 or 433. Its the same plan.

 

I'm not so sure that Mata would fit into his 433 system, as his system is more of a 4123 system rather than the one we used to use the 4231. His system doesn't really have a number 10, as he only plays with 1 holding player so the 2 centre mids still have to carry out defensive duties, as his front 3 press very high up the pitch, and the wingers don't do much tracking back.

I personally ain't worried about tradition of the club, as long as it's attacking good to watch football. Though well have to wait and see what he does

 

He will not play a 442 I can assure you of that. He never has and he never will play with 2 central strikers

 

He did at Barcelona and az alkmaar.

 

Doubt it. Barcelona have played the same way since the early 90s, I never recall them playing a 442

 

Its not like the British 442 but more 4 pairs or 2 in a 2222 formation

His preferred is the 433 as its the total football formation but hes not restricted to it.
