http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...rpool-clash-moved-snubbed-Premier-League.html Inflammatory stuff as always from Jose. Is he right? Are we England's most important club in Europe for the past decade: one EC, one Europa, one EC final and five semis United: one EC, two finals and one semi
Were certainly Englands best Club last decade and it is past time the FA stopped doing FA for English football and gave all our semi teams a bit of help. Respect is earned, not a right and Jose does us few favours at times as far as respect goes. This season he has seemed particularly spikey and very spring loaded. Can the Club doctor not slip a bit of prozac in his coffee ? He'd taste it if it was put in his red wine !!
LOL. Think he was much spikier first time round. The Rikjaard Frisk stuff was far edgier than anything he has engaged in this season. He is much more chilled than he was at Real or Inter that is for sure
We have actually been to 3 finals, 1 more than Chelsea. So we are the most successful English side in the Champions League over the last decade. The Europa League win is irrelevant as you only got in that from failing, and finishing 3rd in your CL group. So a Europa League victory is less of an achievement than a last 16 CL elimination
Agree, Shergar. Let's ignore the Europa Cup. One win, two finals and one semi, is a superb record, as is one win, one final and five semis. Debatable as to which one is better. But I would go with the latter! Champions League co-efficients would too. http://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/club/ What is Arsenal's record like? One final and one semi? Poor If we awarded three points for winning the trophy, two for runners up and one for a semi, who would come out on top?
Firstly it should be judged on victorys, which we are both tied on 1 a piece. So as there tied the next step should be beaten finalists which we lead 2-1. So you don't need to take into account anything else. Your semi final appearances might come in handy if you get through next week, as then you'll be above us. They do come in handy for you guys anyways, as they put you in 2nd place above Liverpool, who have 1 win, 1 final defeat and 1 semi defeat. Arsenal are then 4th, with a poor record
One win, One runners up and one semi in the last ten years and we havnt even been in the tourney for 4 years! Obviously on balance we are not in contention for most successful in Europe due to our recent non contributions. But my point is maybe looking at results over the last decade is too long ago. Perhaps look at your success in the last three seasons? In this case I believe Chelsea have held the mantel. All for change though! I am looking to be able to support my team in the competition next year and hopefully we can restore this mantel!
This is 100% true. UEFA only look at the past 5 seasons to determine the coefficient, so what you did 10 yeas ago is no longer relevant. So yes, as of now, we are the most important English club in Europe. And if you really want to compare the previous 5 years as well, we were joint 2nd in the coeffecient table along with Liverpool for that period, with United being 4th. So yes, we are the most important English club in Europe for the past decade.
"the Premier League ruled it out without consulting Liverpool." After all the abuse we got from some here for refusing to move it as well At least we are back in it next season, it needs a good attacking team in it
We have scored more points over the last decade than United. It's the points that decide the rankings and how many places you get in the CL so Jose is 100% correct we are the most important club by far.
It is crystal clear - Goons owe everything to us! without us - their 4th place trophy year in year out - would be as good as their Emirates cup! Entire PL should support us - let alone Pool!
"Chelsea asked the Barclays Premier League, Sky TV and Liverpool if they would agree to hold the game today rather than tomorrow. While the broadcasters were said to be open to the idea, the Premier League ruled it out without consulting Liverpool." As in the article you posted
Whatever the way you calculate it, being in the semis and finals means more games per year than those out of it. On that score, Chelsea have had it tougher and still come out on top. Will be very interested in how Liverpool cope with all the extra games next year, assuming they make the last 16. City couldn't go on with it with a great squad, so it aint easy.
Liverpool could have lobbied for the date change too, like they did in 2012 when it suited them. They put huge pressure on the FA using the press and media, and the FA acquiesced, meaning we had to play a late Sunday KO cup semi v our biggest rivals before Barcelona
