I would agree. All our FBs hit the first defender more often than not. Except Foxy. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

No, I said that him crossing before an attacker gets there is only part of the problem. The rest of the time, I agree with you that he just isn't accurate enough or he runs out of options because he only ever crosses with his left foot.

You're right it isn't, although now we're getting the news items about denials and manouveres, as well as the straight reporting.

One article suggested Reed's statement was just a tactic. Of course, once someone puts the suggestion titbit out there gossipers will gather round feeding off it. And so it goes. Incidentally, I think Reed has had to do this primarily because Poch looks increasingly pissed off every time the media start in on him about rumours, rather than the game ahead.

Not the most fantastic total over a season, eh..?

The relatively unspoken of Nat Clyne has done better in that department.

Isn't the first responsibility of a full back to defend? And it's not like anyone drops in behind Luke to cover, the way Chris Marsden used to cover for Wayne Bridge. It may be that the attacking side of Luke's game is developing more slowly than the defensive side, but that's fine, really not a problem.

With modern FB's that's almost becoming a debatable question.

I think the team are well drilled in what to do in various situations...they automatically cover for each other. This is why their training is so intensive...play automatically and don't think too much...very dangerous for a footballer.

Our full backs tend to be a bit exposed, though, as no one else is really providing any width. Which puts a lot of pressure on them. It also puts a lot of pressure on the midfield pair when the full backs do get forward and we lose the ball.

Ok, I've got the answer. Don't give the ball away, ever.

Interesting Angle that Leeds fans would be annoyed if Astori was sold to Man Utd

The Les Reed statement has perhaps softened the medias attitude to the Shaw saga.

United have been pretty arrogant in the media and I would be over the moon if we told them to do one

That clutching rationalisation at the end of that Mail article gives it all the hallmarks of being completely fabricated.

In other news, United now saying they haven't signed a new manger in response to reports in Holland that they have an agreement with van Gaal. Sounds like oddly specific wording with regard to tense. Pretty clear that van Gaal will be their next manager. I wonder how his unavailability until after the World Cup might hamper them. If the Mail piece has any semblance of a point it could be that they might struggle to buy players while they don't have a permanent manager.

I read most of the articles about Shaw going to United. I always read the comments section so I've noticed two types of comments are widespread and popular. Take this article. In the comments you can find someone saying:

'No matter how good he is, an 18 year old left back should NOT be going for 30 million! What has English football come to??? '

It's a popular comment, it earned a lot of 'green arrows'. I think it's nonsense. Luke Shaw is a young talented player. Same as was Rooney once, or Rio Ferdinand. Both went to United for a similar sum of money and that happend decade or more ago. What i'm saying is, extraodinary talented players player always costed extraodinary amounts of money. Shaw changes nothing in that respect.

Other type of comment, also very popular, I'm reffering to is this one:

Luke shaw is a good player and can develop into a solid left back but no way he is worth 30 million. 15 million tops.

This guy doesn't recognize that Luke is an extraodinary talent. He thinks he's an average young English left back who got overhyped for some reason.
Well what can I say except i thing he's completely wrong. I could advise him to watch Luke more closely and then maybe he'll see that, or i can just conclude he doesn't understand football.

I'd like a brand new Ferrari and i'm 100% sure it ain't worth the price the showroom is asking, but I don't think they'll let me have one for half price. They'll probably call security

So what does everyone think we really need this summer? And what do you realistically think we'll get?
