Will Pochettino stay or go?

Still being told we have/ will offer a 3yr contract.

 

He's here for at least another year...I think he will honour that as he will be quite aware that jobs come round all the time, so there is no danger of missing out, and there is work to be done here. Hopefully, he will sign an extension as well' but can understand him wanting to give his full attention to the rest of the season at the moment....not the time for consulting agents and lawyers and reading the small print. Les Reed's comments must have pleased the players as much as it pleased us.

 

I'm not looking forward to the day when he gives David the heave-ho. Do you think he might keep him on..? As he said before, he's thicker than he realised. Personally, I think he's smarter than he lets on. He can speak English reasonably well, as we know. He just chooses to have David as a little barrier between him and his public, and it works very well in his favour.

 

The WBA manager has said that, although his English is improving, he still feels unsure when speaking to the media in English. Also said he struggles with the players, whereas I think MP has been fairly comfortable with the team. Try listening to media questions as if you were a foreigner...they are often long and convoluted...very easy to get the wrong idea. Even the lovely David has to ask for them to be repeated. I want David Salas to be kept as a mascot if his language services are dispensed with

 

David's translations are just one thing. If there is an advantage for us, it's being able to work out what the reporters ask. I've been thinking of emailing the OS to ask if they can position some microphones for the reporters because they are only just audible, unless one turns the sound right up. At present, one gets an almost inaudible burble from some unseen source and then David rips into his Spanish translation at relatively high volume. So I find I'm often twiddling with the volume controls, or trying to make sense of the question from the reply.

It cannot be beyond the wit of the sound engineers at Saints to sort this out. Just a crossed pair of decent mics facing the media would do, and we'd get stereo as well. Mind you, there is a theme here. The sound engineers can't sort out the Tannoy system at St Marys, plus they think the press conference sound is acceptable. I wonder if there are any vacancies in audio recording at the club..? I've had an interest in high quality sound and acoustics since about 1976, I suppose, and I know some techniques in audio recording, so I consider I'd have a pretty damn good chance of sorting both out.

 

I think it proves he plays Football Manager. I always used to wait for a year to go before offering out player contracts. He just likes the consistency

 

David's translation: "I think we deserved the three points today. I congratulate our players, particularly for the performance in the second half. I think we showed great application and character to come back from a controversial goal in the first half. I think that it was a debatable decision, but we didn't let that affect us, so I am happy with the result"

MP as literally translated: "yeah, well it was a game of two halves, David. We were all over them in the second half, although they had their moments in the first half- frankly that Lino should've gone to Specsavers, their centre-forward was so far off-side. Anyway, I am chuffed for the lads- done me proud today."

David is worth every penny....

 

Ooh harsh..! But amusing.

 

I'm thinking of pretending to be Spanish, and taking a translator in with me to all potentially awkward situations.

Yeah, my Manuel-esque grasp of Espanyol could be a problem. I'm working on that though.

Think your otherwise brilliant plan has the slight drawback of your needing to communicate with your interpreter

 

David James on BT said that he thinks Mauricio will stay here as he has bought into the Southampton ambition. Not saying he knows more than anyone else, but still nice to have a pundit not toeing the official line that he must want to leave for any team interested.

I wish he'd just sign a new contract, it would make this summer so much more pleasant.

 

Can't see him not signing a new contract.

 

He wants to wait until the end of the season, and I think that we can accommodate that. After the final whistle blows against Man U, when the players begin doing a lap, one of the team's execs (or Katharina herself) ought to stride down from the stands and thrust the contract into his hands.

 

Nor me. I still think he will.

 

If Pooch goes so will alot of the squad; l see tonight that Goal is reporting Adam has not ruled out a move-keeping Poch will make up a alot of minds on the squad to stay or go...

 

Am actually angry at Adam...why couldn't he say something bland...on two occasions he said the same thing...wait till summer. Sorry, Adam, you are under contract and no one has been given permission to talk to you...what he said just puts him back in the market. All Reed's good work undone in two interviews...makes me think that he wasn't happy with what Reed said. I was always certain of Adam...now not so sure.
