Anyone got any idea? Paisley? Ancelotti? Guardiola? Mourinho? Hitzfeld?

Liverpool fans may be able to help as im sure they will know. Them being European experts and all that.

So, answers on a post card....

    Or just reply.

    I'd say it's Fergie, I'm not 100% though.

Unless Diego Simeone and Atletico win the CL he will lose his CL record of 2 titles which he holds jointly with Pep, Jose and Ancelotti.

Paisley won 3 of the old Euro Cups, and fair play for that, but we all know it was far easier back in those days. For example Atletico, Chelsea and Real wouldn't have even been alowed to compete in this seasons Euro Cup if the old rules still applied, 3 of the 4 semi finalists. Fergie would have won 5 or 6 had he been around in Paisleys day IMO

Typical plastic view on things, there's statues at OT in honour of those that won easy trophies then?

I mean European trophies. Official ones only of course.

I have no idea if they are linked with united though. Did Atkinson win a few? It couldnt be Fergie as hes a european failure of course.

So it makes me a plastic for realising the CL is a tougher tournament to win than the old European Cup. It is basic common sense that the CL is a lot tougher, that's why they changed to the current CL, as the old competition was flawed, as there where so many top sides not being allowed to compete, yet the Slovenian, Danish, and Azerbaijan champions where taking there place.

We have statues of those players because they where great players for us, and they would have still been great players for us regardless of weather they won a Euro Cup or not. Lots of our great players have never won a Euro Cup. Cantona, Robson and Van Nistlerooy to name 3. Though the competition our players won in 99 and 08 was a tougher competition than the one our players won in 68. There is no getting away from that, regardless of how you want to dress it up

Jeezus that was one hell of a rant, and here was me sticking up for Sir Matt and his players, well answer me this, if there is a differential between trophies won in different era's why doesn't appear in FIFA, Uefa, FA or club records?

Utd are steeped in historical victories from before the modern game existed and you dissing their achievements is piss poor.

I am only saying it about 1 trophy not all of them. It is just basic common sense. Obviously ueafa will recognise them all the same, but that's irrelevant to the point in making. It was still a big achievement to win the old Euro Cup, but it's still tougher nowadays. You know this deep down, your just on a wind up as always

Also can I add that Sir Matt probably would have won the old Euro Cup a fair few more times, had half his squad not been killed in the Munich air disaster. It took him years and years to rebuild his squad after that:biggrin:

Can't see your logic tbh, the CL didn't exist back when Sir Matt won Europe's elite trophy so the European Cup was all there was and at that time that made them the best and therefore worthy of a mention no matter which era we're in?
