    Afternoon all,

been having a bit of banter with the local Leicester City fans, as i live in Leicester, and they are all bragging about having won more trophies than Arsenal lately.

i mentioned to them that when Newcastle won the championship a few seasons back, they all said it didnt count as a trophy, but now they have won it they have changed their minds!

i personally don't count any trophy for winning a division (apart from the Prem) as a major trophy, as otherwise teams that get relegated and promoted often could brag they have won more trophies than big Premiership sides

    what are your thoughts?

on a side note im actually happy Leicester got promoted as it means Premiership footy in the city again!

You'll be able to see the Magpies eat the Foxes.

I think Leicester fans should be looking forward to next season and not thinking about the one about to finish.

It's a trophy but not a major trophy.

Leicester can feel proud of their achievements this season, but let's face it, they've won a trophy that not a single premier league team wants to be in with a chance of winning - including themselves from next season.

I used to work in Leicester and met many good people, but on a football front met a lot of Leicester fans who said they hated Newcastle with a passion. That was a few years ago now so not sure if it's still the same. Not sure what caused it - possibly Lennon v Shearer - but nobody ever said why.

Probably cause of the 1993 7-1 kicking we gave them, I was running a country Inn near Leicester and we had the match on, took a load of bets that we would beat Leicester that day with the locals, they all paid up at half time!!

It is obviously a trophy. Not one to get overly excited about if you believe you belong in the PL, but enjoyable nonetheless.

For a club like them its a great achievement and worth a mention but for us its something I did not celebrate as we should have not been in that position in the first place.
To me the only cup of any value would be the fa cup these days.

A Trophy worth winning if your competing for it.
Better to be promoted as Champions than finishing second or via the play-offs.

Now they can join the rest of the also-rans in the Holy Grail of the 'Greed is Good League', before they return to whence they came.

My mate is a Coventry City fan and he reckons all Leicester fans have tiny cocks.

    And that includes the women.

    Hi Leicerstergeordie. <ok>

I've never counted this one as 'winning silverware'. Yes we got a trophy, but you do that for winning any league - no matter how low down the division happens to be.

Whenever we talk about not winning a major trophy for 60+ years, it demonstrates that people don't see this as a major trophy. It was a promotion and that's all. Nice to do it in style and top the division, but would prefer to have not had to be in the division in the first place (at least in terms of experiencing the relegation season that preceded it).

    hope that helps. <ok>

I celebrated wildly for 30 seconds when we won it.
We then moved upwards and got that huge Portuguese trophy Colo struggled to hold.

That's what you call it. Mrs ACS just called it disappointingly frustrating.

There was a load of trouble the year before in 1992 on the last day of the season, when KK had just become Manager and we had to win that day or relegation loomed to Div 3. It screwed up there promotion push which didn't help either.

I'd been there a couple of times before that game and there was no love lost between us and them.

Didn't look pretty. You can see why their fans might not have taken kindly.

At least it was an exciting end to that season - not like this one.

From what I've seen, they sound like the Mackems of the Midlands - bitter, resentful and full of rancor. Screw them.

Like others have said, it's not regarded as a major trophy, but since the introduction of the 'Premiership', Newcastle United have won the 'Championship' trophy twice (Keegan '93 & Hughton '10) and I hold that trophy in higher regard than other 'promotion' trophies.

The reason being that it was always the main trophy to win in this country - when you consider the last time Liverpool won the League Title, this was the trophy they raised in 1990 - it just seems that extra bit special to me.

The Premier League trophy has lessened the 'value' of it in many peoples eyes, but being over 40, it will always hold a place in my heart :)

If we had not have won that match what might have happened to us.
