I gave up on Peter Lorimer's comments and speeches a long time ago. He totally lost me when he kept telling us how great Bates was and how we should be thankful that the thieving cnut was doing all he could for our club.

Now I see the latest headline for his column (why do YEP still use him) is a huge Cellino butt kiss which I guess is the Lorimer way. I can't be bothered to read what will probably be a lot of cosy up drivel in his column. It is such a shame that a club legend made his name toffee, and I really wish he would just shut up. He alienated a lot of fans with his involvement and unwavering support of Bates.

I feel the same. Lorises was a particular hero of mine as his was first leeds team I supported and I idolised lorimer. I found his unwavering support of bates cringeworthy and rarely read anything he has to say. Same as Billy, I read the headline and couldn't be bothered. going any further

The question is... can a legend destroy his reputation by simply saying something in a newspaper for money?

Perhaps Peter Lorimer should ask Gary Sprake for some advice.

Not going read it myself.......but wasn't Bates his boss at the time. It's ok if you've made millions from the game and you can speak up and get the push and not care. If the 60/70 Leeds United team were playing today they'd all be rich, a part from that cnut Sprake.

I can understand the older lot trying to make ends meet, lets face it Hunt probably earns more than any of them did.

Hunt earns more than that whole team did. A. Awful lot of journeymen footballers have made a living way beyond their talents since sky graced us with their presence

Unfortunately there are lots of sports in the same boat now. I'm watch a fair bit of golf and there are hundreds of mediocre golfers on tours, that will never get near winning anything and yet they make hundreds of thousands per year, once again inflated by the sky presence

Agree with all the points made ... I don't mind Lorimer writing for YEP but its just his terrible bum kissing that kills him every time ... one of the greatest ever Leeds players who should stop and think now ... Clarke always comes across well when he is interviewed and speaks sense ... so sad :(

I can safely say that I have been Bates's worst critic on this and any other forum, for the last few years. I can however say that I was impressed with something Harry had in his latest book (& Harry has had some big spates with Bates) When Brian Tiler dies in a road crash during Italia 90, harry and Bournemouth put on a charity auction so that Mr Tilers family could be slightly looked after. Ken Bates phoned the club secretary and told her on the QT that every winning bid would be beaten by him (Quietly) and that was for everything in the event. The club sec contacted Bates and told him how much he had spent so that a cheque could be sent to the club, but Bates doubled what he was due to pay <applause> So although I hate the twat for what he's done to us, you gotta love him for that.

No. How did that Beatles song go? Oh yes, "Can't buy me love". Sums up my view.
