Yes I know its only the Guardian SB, and a female commentator at that (whatever next!!) but well deserved I'd say! http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2014/apr/24/louise-taylor-premier-league-team-of-season
I'm scrolling down the comments section and so far I haven't seen anyone go "Why the hell is Davies in their?"
He's had a very good season for them. Same as Marshall at Cardiff who have conceded a **** load. Sometimes the keeper can only do so much.
Seems bang on to me. Knows what she's doing this lass. Only one you could argue is mannone, but he deserves to be there or there abouts.
Ok let me put it this way, if you had to choose 1 goalie out of all of the PL goalies, would you choose Vito? I put it to you that no, no you would not.
A completely valid point. There's another caveat that people tend to overlook - they seem to think about who would be the best signing. This shouldnt be the case, it should be purely best performer this single season. Id say Cech or Mignolet while De Gea has probably been Utd's one bright point too. Id have all of them, plus Marshall and McGregor, ahead of Vito. The latetr was simply a good value signing, it doesnt make him the best player. Didnt he hardly play for the first few months as well?
Can't for the life of me understand why Louise Taylor, the Guardians North East Football Correspondent & Sunderland FC enthusiast would select Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone in her team of the season.
Exactly, there could be many reasons why she has picked him. She may have watched him more than any other keeper hence why her impression is higher of him.
Keepers do tend to look good when they see so much action, get so much practice. David Stockdale for instance, has looked very good this season
She makes good arguments for her selections and Vito and Curtis are bold but controversial choices. I'd choose Howard or McGregor over Vito though (Marshall no way...conceded more goals than any keeper in the Prem) and Lailana surely has had a better season than Ramsay who has been injured for much of it.
