Liverpool set to move for highly-rated Bristol City defender

Liverpool are set to move for 18-year-old Bristol City centre-back Jack Batten, according to the Daily Mirror.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to bolster the amount of British talent in his Liverpool squad, and has targeted the highly-rated defender as a perfect addition.

The Bristol City centre-back is available for a as little as £75, 000 up front with clauses and add-ons, and the Reds are set to make a move for the youngster at the end of the season.

I hope he goes there... more of a chance of playing and if he does we can be proud we made him. Should put in the clause that we get first say on any loan moves

I can't be the only person that thinks it is absolutely insane that the Premier League champions elect want a highly-rated player of ours that we're never played.

Also, how the **** is he only going for £75k?! Is this club allergic to money?

He is now a full time contracted pro. Correct?
So no limit on the fee?
Should we react to every bit of rumour?

For the same reason that Arsenal bought Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain from Saints and Liverpool bought Sterling from QPR - For their potential.

Sterling was signed by Liverpool from the Academy at Queens Park Rangers in February 2010 by Rafael Benítez for an initial fee of £600,000, which could rise to £5 million depending on how many appearances he makes for the first team.[3][4] He made his first appearance for the first team in a pre-season friendly against Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany on 1 August 2010.

    Clauses.
    1) loan exclusivity to us in the league we are in.
    2) a 30% stake in any future transfer
    3) a cash sum if he makes trhe first team
    4) a cash sum if he plays for england

What contract is he currently on? If it's one that runs out in the summer then we are restricted by what a tribunal would award

Jack Batten signed a pro contract a while ago so cannot be cherry picked by category one academies

so the rumour that he will be going for 75k in compo is complete horse sh1t

If Liverpool want him they will have to pay a transfer fee that we agree too

But we must play him if we don't want to sell him. For example tomorrow and next week.

Is that 30% of the total future fee or just from the profit, although at £75k I guess the difference is pretty negligible. I also cannot fathom how so many of our academy lads are on the radars and have in fact been signed by really top Prem clubs, yet get nowhere near our first team when we have been on the slide and trying to save cash, yet at the same time we give contracts left right and centre to old has beens. I can only assume we are not in a financial position to wait for that talent to emerge whereas the big boys are??

But Walcott and Chamberlain played at least a season for the Saints. I'd guarantee that in those 40 games they played they stood out from the rest.

Although with Steve Lansdown's millions it would appear so but we don't seem to be bringing these youngsters through.

Last season we had the opportunity to bring a lot of youngsters through. Bryan and Reid have both done well, but neither are quite full regulars and need careful management. I think we have done that. Wynter hasn't quite had the same impact. I think Burns could be given more of a run though.

Whilst he wasn't one of ours, Derrick Williams had only played once for Villas first team before this season. For me, he has stood out and become a valued member of the team. Young player of the year for me, with Baldock taking the main award.
