And Adam is the least likely to leave out of the players linked with moves. Complete bullshit.

The trouble with having money to burn after a big sale is that other teams take you to the cleaners. Look at the money Liverpool lost because they overpaid for Carroll after selling Torres.

I'd been thinking about the Bale sale too, it's part of the reasoning as to why even though it's big money I wouldn't take £30m for Shaw because of the 'we can buy 2 or 3 top players with that money' logic. When Bale went it was obviously disappointing for Spurs but the general consensus understandably was that they had to take that kind of money, but really you could argue they would have been much better off with keeping Bale and then a modest investment of £15-20m. Basically I think the proven entity is always better, especially for a club like us.

Keep Shaw spend 20m would suit me.

That's true, but Bale has a hell of a lot more impact on a team than Shaw would (mainly because a "grab the game by the nuts" attacking midfielder is always going to be more important than a fullback). If we invested that £30m to our attack, as long as we didn't grab another bust (which is always one of the dangers) then we'd definitely be better off.

On how many players because that's when it gets tough, especially if one is a very good striker?

I can't be bothered to link there ad ridden website, but the Echo got a little soundbite from Gordon "Flash" Watson today. He wanted Saints to be aggressive in the transfer market and get business done early.

Have to agree with him on this and with our premier league status assured for sometime and our squad weaknesses well known since at least January, you would like to think we have our top targets lined up.

If we take the Newspapers spin on Shaw as gospel then Man Utd wish to get it done before the World Cup. I personally think we should hold out till August and make sure we're sorted, just like Spurs did with Bale.

This will make life a little easier for the board if/when Shaw departs
