I'm of the same opinion as just about everybody else in that IF Newcastle come looking then Brucey will be off like a rocket. Nobody's delivered what Ashley - the 5th wealthiest person in the UK - wants: success in the League, and Toon in Europe. Could Brucey, with a huge war-chest, do that? TWT, as Froggy says, endlessly.......
What's the point in the contract then? They were in the Championship not long ago and they're now a member of the 'just outside Europe' group along with Southampton. Can they really expect to be in Europe?
There's no real point. Never has been. They can be bought out. It actually means very little if one or the other party want to change things.

I wondered if he was kidding too! They've been phenomenally bad since selling Cabaye - he was so, so important to them. Remy isn't theirs either, and Coloccini might be off in the summer, so that's your three best players gone. There are lots of holes to fill in the summer.

Don't see this happening. If Newcastle were going to sack Pardew they would have done it at the time he nutted Meyler. Even if this scenario did arise - and SB were appointed Toon boss - I'm sure the Allams would impose a "No transfer dealing" with Newcastle stance as they did with Leicester when square head left.

They were good against us and err, they're in the top 10! They don't even have the Palace/West Ham style which doesn't appeal to some people so what's the problem? The Geordies think they've got a right to European football so they all kickoff whenever they lose a home game but christ how much better can they be expected to do? The only team above them who they could have expected to finish above before the season started is Southampton, and given how they've played I don't think they can complain. Surely all this is an argument in defence of Pardew though? They've got an average squad, hardly signed anyone in the last 12 months yet they're 2nd in the PL 'mini-league'. What more could he have done with them?
They're bottom of the form table, they've lost seven of their last ten games and their squad should be better than that, they really have fallen off a cliff since Cabaye left.
I think you're underestimating the extent of the season-of-two-halves they've had. Perhaps Pardew is suffering from raising expectations by having such a good run in the autumn, but since Xmas they've practically got fewer points than anyone else. And they still have Remy and Coloccini for now, so there aren't so many excuses. I wasn't really building an argument against Pardew at all - just commenting on how bad they've been without thinking of him. Many of the reasons he might go are off-field, to be honest.
I don't see SB jumping ship for any other team than Newcastle or a team in the current top 8. At the same time I don't see any of those top 8 coming in for him. Anyone else would be jumping from the same level to the same level or worse.
But doesn't that suggest it was, at least in part, because Cabaye left? Pardew was still the manager when they were on their really good run, so it seems the factor common with success is Cabaye. I think we're all taught to believe that every manager should go after a run of poor results. It's become so common now for managers to be sacked prematurely that people start questioning it when it doesn't happen. Surely the most suitable barometer of success is the league table? They're on course for a very good league finish so what more can be expected of them? If they'd carried in winning at the same rate as before they might be top 4 by now (I'm not working it out mind), surely we're not expecting that from them? They're still a recently promoted club. They've got no more right to success than Stoke or West Ham.
