NUFC in talks to sign Filip Djuricic

According to Portuguese media reports we have met with his representatives in London and are trying to get a deal in place for the summer. A cheaper Cabaye replacement option than Cabella or Grenier so it's fairly believable.

So many rumours floating around it's hard to believe much of what we hear unless it's straight from the horses mouth.

Canny player, in his league. Call me cynical, though - does appear that with Arab money arriving in Ligue 1, so the desperate need to sell on the cheap isn't really there anymore. Instead, we've cast our gaze to the impoverished Portuguese (Benfica have a £150m debt, I believe, and they're one of the lucky ones) to snaffle players. Not sure about the step from Portugal to Prem. C. Ronaldo aside, are there many other good examples? Genuine question, I may well be wrong.

I'd rather take that salvio kid that tore us apart last year, and Rodrigo.... I cant complain if we sign this kid, looks exciting, cheap and has potential. I don't think he's cabella's quality though..

 

Really wouldn't be a surprise if this is true. The reports suggest that Djuricic would cost less than £5million. Ashley is always going to go for that rather than pay an extra £5million or more to get Cabella or Grenier, regardless of whether the latter pair are better players. We've also been fairly consistently linked with a move for Diego Capel from Sporting Lisbon. Again his price tag would likely be under £5million. We could buy Djuricic, Capel and a couple of freebies like Hunt and Gomis and we'll have 'strengthened' both wings, number 10 role and striker for around £8million (ignoring those astronomical agents fees). We can only sit back and hope that whoever is signed turns out to be good enough. I have less faith that this will be the case than I did a few years ago when it seemed that Carr could do no wrong.

 

Don't know too much about Salvio, he's a rather old looking 23 year old though.
