I would have thought the design would join up the Main stand and Anfield road a bit better with filled in corners but that doesn't seem to be the case. A bit of a waste in my opinion, could fit in another 3k or so there plus it would look better.

Seem to remember a while back reading that the corners would be left available to be filled in later on. They're doing it in parts to better control investment and make sure we're using what they're paying for and to keep disruption minimal.

Personally, I think the stadium plans look **** from the outside, but the mainstand expansion from inside the ground looks amazing, reminds me a little of the Bernabeu with the high tiers. Could you imagine in 10 years if both the Anfield road end and Centenary stand are expanded in a similar manor? Would be a cauldron inside there! (Keep the Kop as it is, obviously)

It's a third tier on current stand so filling in corners ain't on the agenda

Looking at the picture- I'm glad Gerrard will still be playing footie in 2016. Doesn't look any older in the future either. His aging is being reversed. He will be 2005 good again soon!

From the sources it seems that the first phase of construction will expand the Main Stand to accommodate 8500-9500 more seats (including corporate) bringing the total to 54000-55000.

After the completion of that, the Anfield Road stand will be expanded to add 4000-5000 more to the capacity for a grand total of 59000 seats by 2018.

Further renovation can then be done on the Centenary and the Kop, likely for a similar amount of seats, pushing the ground to 70k - but only when we recoup the fees/feel like we can financially benefit from expanding.

The main stand extension looks a little ugly and out of place compared to the rest of the stadium. Personally I was hoping more glass would be involved, I think the emirates is a great looking stadium (although ours will be better inside and is more of a cauldron) for instance. But this is still better than a new stadium imo. Just hope that we can get 60-70k with more extending, and we don't just stop at 55k capacity, it's too small.

So Phase 1 will increase the capacity to approx 54k - if we are able to fill these extra seats, we will then continue with Phase 2.

A well known Liverpool based architect, Peter McGurk explained how filling the corners is a lot work for little value.

Also, we cannot expand to over 68k due to infrastructure restraints.

Also will this work go about correcting any of the seats in the other stands with the crappy restricted views? or just concentrating on extending the main stand?

Please not an Emirates copy!! They don't refer to it as The Library for nothing.

The problem with a staged refurbishment is that it is never going to appear as a uniform design. The present stadium already looks good but is just too small for purpose. Therefore I'm happy to see all 4 sides refurbished in an individual way. However, I would like to see The Kop capacity increased significantly - imagine the noise!!!!

i actually liked the look of the plans for the kop when the 2 clowns was still here, think it was designed so it would make as much noise as possible.

Sod the Yellow Wall! I want to see and hear The Kop triumphant as it was under Shanks. As the song says "Nothing Compares...." So at least 30,000 seats.
