Afternoon all. Good luck to the lads today - if we win then we really could start believing in miracles. On a less happy note my knee looks like a grapefruit today and I have had to pull out of London to Brighton next month - absolutely gutted. Still, it clashes with the play off final so you never know <whistle>

Try living up here Dave - it's a glorious, sunny and warm day. That's not to say that tomorrow will be the same though....

Happy Earth Day by the way - hope you intend doing your bit to save the planet. <ok>

Morning all, life returns to normal and I can get back to doing the jobs I enjoy. Yesterday I was trying to follow the game from my mobile, not very well when the signal keeps dropping.:(

It has been interesting watching the new stand going up. Now we need a webcam behind the structure so we can see what is happening there.

Just about recovered now from the weekend - so that is the last of 4 daughters married off - and my last Father of the Bride speech. If my son ever gets married I can just enjoy sitting there - with a glass or perhaps two :)

When I got married we knew that my father-in-law would be absolutely terrified of making a speech. He doesn't like crowds of people and usually tries to hide at big social gatherings, so we arranged that there would be no formal speeches. Instead we allowed anyone to say a few words if they felt so inclined. My father-in-law surprised us all by coming forward and giving a long, improvised speech that was very good.

That's a nice way of doing it. At my cousin's wedding his wife's father was so nervous that one of the bridesmaids took over and read for him. Mind, I've had to talk at meetings, give presentations etc over the years and have never been more nervous than when i did the Best Man speech at my brother's wedding.

It's similar for me - my job involved presentations, speeches to hundreds of people etc - but they were all work related so I knew what I needed to say. As it happens I have found the FOTB speeches quite easy as you are only saying nice things about people and the audience is very receptive and wants to laugh and enjoy the speech (unlike audiences for some of my finance presentations). I found the couple of Best Man speeches I have given far harder as they do need to be more humorous and I am not a natural comedian.
