Me personally? It's more a dual dread that I'll see it again on Sunday, then again on Wednesday and worst of all I may see it again in the CL final! The idea that after all the money thrown around this is what the ultimate football team supposedly looks like.

I'm generally pro the home teams in Europe and yes I wouldn't mind so much if it's a team short on squad and cash comparatively but link this ****e with the arrogant attitude M displays as if we should thank him for allowing us to witness the genius that he is I have developed a real dislike. It's exacerbated when commentators then get on their knees and agree with him.

If we're going to be all western decadent and spend hundreds of millions on a sport rather than say nurses or the homeless then please let it be entertaining! :D

So Chelsea's amazing tactic is play for 0-0, injure 2 of your own players, get another 2 suspended, and take Atletico back to Stamford Bridge where you hope they aren't as good as Sunderland

    <ok>

Wellllll injuring two of your own players is bad luck.. 2 suspended is silliness but playing tight is a tactic.

I suggest and old read back cos there's an awful lot about gross time wasting etc on here etcetc just an opinion

    No rep rep.

Playing like Chelsea did tonight is how technically inferior teams play to try and get a result.
If the 2nd or 3rd best team in the PL is that inferior to Atletico then we really are ****ed.
    Horrible attitude, horrible game.

I'll bash them as much as I like, thanks very much.:)
I've made it plain on here many times that I deplore negative, boring football. The only time I've been severely critical of us is when we've sat back and been negative, so I'm not going to hold back when I see someone else do it.
I thoroughly disagree with those who say it's results that count over performance. I think that we have shown this season that it is possible to get results from playing the game the way it should be played.
Even though I think City have bought their success just as much as Chelsea have, the fact that they go about their game in an entertaining, attractive way makes me much more inclined to want them to succeed.
The dross that Mourinho serves up doesn't deserve to be successful, and I have no qualms about saying so.

As horrible as it was to watch, playing like that is a fair tactic. I find this attitude that you must play in a certain way is quiet funny as the joy of football is that it can be played in many different ways. I love fast paced football, be that counter attacking, or hell for leather attitude but will not stand against defensive football. It can be very effective.

Though if Liverpool do win the league playing how they have played it will be fantastic as it may encourage more attacking styles over defensive driven solidity.

I don't deny it's effective- that's the sad thing about it.
My point is that a lot of people tout the philosophy of effectiveness, "win at all costs and by whatever means" as being the most important thing, and I disagree.
Yes, if and when my team play like that, they're still my team and I'm still behind them- but I do get genuinely frustrated by it.
For all that football is in our blood and our bones, watching it is still first and foremost a type of entertainment, and games like last night's are virtually unwatchable for me.

If I was a Chelsea fan who had saved up and spent all that money to travel to Spain I wouldn't be happy. Not so much with the result, but with the entertainment.

Will Chelsea fans give a flying one about the grinding out of a turgid 0-0 last night if they finish the job next Weds and end up in the CL Final?

    Will they ****.

We as neutrals can say it was anti football, boring, blah, blah, but ultimately we all want to win games and it's the managers job to get a result with what he has available to him.

In any case you lot used to put glass eyes to sleep in the 70's / 80's with the 1-0 back pass them to death European routine :)

Yet more nonsense from you, given that it's a thread entitled 'Champions league watch' and I was giving my opinion on the CL, which last night only involved 1 English club and it wasn't Liverpool <doh>

I thought you were a Manc these days anyway......<whistle>

Oh look, in fact here's you on their Rivals thread this very morning, talking about Chelsea and their opinion on them <doh>

You should have a word with your star player then. He is the quintessential win at all costs type, and not by defensive tactics but cheating, diving, ranting at officials and gamesmanship. Bet you're ok with that though ;)

Hope this game lives up to the expectation.

Shame this is only the semi final and not the final. The two best teams in Europe at the moment

Where's the bus? How can you play a semi-final without a bus?

Let's see how much Webb disgraces English refereeing, hopefully he doesn't overshadow the game again

Still can't believe he's the 'best' we have <doh>
He'll bottle some big decisions tonight, no doubt.

Na, look what happened to you lot, got rid of most of your diving cheating albeit hugely talented players and lost all creativity....would rather be a wickedly gifted red than cold dull beige brick.

And ranting at officials? You check the FA website today? <laugh>
