Morning WJ, to be fair Wickham was asked to do a job for us on the wing (the the majority of his games). I was happy with his efforts, but sticking to his role, was never going to get on the score sheet.
If Palace want McCormack and Smith, I'd refuse to sell unless they offered us Dwight Gayle in a player+cash deal. No point having £8m in the bank if we can't spend it on anyone with the same quality.
Really do have to agree, if our next move is to sell Ross and / or Smith, were heading in the complete wrong direction. If cutting costs are first priority, we've a truck load of rubbish to get rid of instead
I wouldn't have put it quite like that Eire. But I get your point. That said, I don't know that Cellino is that bothered with cutting costs as he has more than enough money for costs to no longer be a problem. What I think he'll want is a playing staff of around 25 players, all of whom will be good enough to either get us up or get us up and keep us up. For example, Brown is good enough to help get us up. But I can't see him staying beyond the end of next season, as I would fully expect another CM enforcer to become available. Tonge, Hunt and a number of other clearly aren't good enough to even get us up.
I wouldn't mind seeing Cagliari sold shortly Boggers. Whereas he obviously is very wealthy, I do feel the bulk of the reported 70m he expects to get, will make its way to Elland Road and the sooner the better. He may just do some firefighting until then
Any truth in the rumour that Agent M will be knighted for services to Yorkshire as his true identity has been leaked by the YEP?
As far as I'm aware he is back from his loan, could be wrong though. Either way I think recalling him and playing him as we are short would've/would be the better idea if Byram is out for the rest of the season. I don't think we should be looking at getting rid of Ross, He is clearly one of the best strikers in the league whether its on form or class. Not sure I would class Smith as a player we should be building around though, wouldn't be bothered if he went and we got some money for him. No he isn't
Josh, I think I'll have to disagree re Smith, he's awkward to play against and he's always a handful. Really good scoring record as well, considering he's usually a substitute and this is his first season at Championship level. Every team needs a few good impact subs and he's definitely one of the most useful ones we've had in a long time. I doubt his wages are particularly high either. Pretty sure Thompson hasn't been on loan at all this season!
Re Thompson from Wiki [h=3]Return to Leeds[edit][/h]Thompson was named in the starting lineup for Leeds in their final game of the 2012-13 season, against Watford. However an unforeseen clause in his loan deal at Bury forced his replacement by Michael Brown prior to kickoff. The game ended as a 2-1 victory for the Yorkshire side.[SUP][[/SUP]
Afternoon all Selling Smith and or McCormack i a step backwards. Not many I would retain but those two are a must IMO. How we all doing?
Not bad Bucks, working damn hard (obviously). In a way quite looking forward for the season to end... Hows you? You in a nice pub garden somewhere?
Nah, but I am off. Think Southampton must have stolen our sunshine, well cloudy here pal. Just at home at the moment, got a few chores to do like fix my soffit and drink loads of beer, but I'll get round to it.
Did anyone ever watch that 60's or 70's tv show called 'Adam Adamant' where a bloke from a hundred years ago got froze and then thawed out makes me think what would happen if some of us older fans came back right now? we would never believe the massive fall of our great club. The crap football, the lack of skill, the fear some of our players exhibit when walking out at ER, the lack of tactical awareness from our managers, the size of the wages for shyte players. ...... The only 2 players who would fit into the old ways would be fat paddy K and Brown for his type of tackles I wish I would wake up and find out that this season was a dream, a very bad bastard dream.
Hello all ... on the Academy lads, before McD makes any decisions you can be certain he will be advised by both Redfearn and Naylor on who they think is ready to step up ... Mowatt got his chance because the Academy coaches made the recommendation and McD went with it ... Dawson has missed most of the season with a shoulder injury and only returned a few weeks ago, and he admitted he wasn't strong enough yet but had been working on bulking up to meet the demands of First Team football ... not many others right now who are ready to step up, we have to be careful with the Academy lads, especially bringing them into an environment where the senior pros don't give a **** Zac Thompson hasn't shown the right temperament to be a success above Lge One ... his First Team chances came with disciplinary issues, and even in his spell at Bury he had problems with cards ... he didn't go to Bury and show that he was a Leeds player, so I don't see him having a future here in all honesty, and expect he will be going Any player has a price, and if someone comes in with £6m-plus for Ross I'd bet he will be sold, that's just the nature of the game ... Palace paid that for an untried kid from Peterborough, so £6m will have to be the starting point
Oh yes Brown is good enough to help get us up Josh. Who do we have that is better as a DM, not a midfielder who can defend a bit, but a solid toe in where it hurts DM?
Boggers ... no, Brown is finished ... he is well past it mate, he cannot give you a full season and its pointless keeping him as a bit part player, rather use his wages on a younger player ... Brown is of the old Warnock era, we don't need him anymore ... our team is in desperate need of pace and energy, we have too many slow players ... go and look at Forest's second goal against us, Derbyshire comes from deep with Brown well ahead of him, but Brown's awareness is so poor that Derbyshire runs in behind him and exposes the defence completely, Brown doesn't react and is still strolling when the ball hits the back of the net ... nope, Brown for all his "hard man" stuff is simply not good enough anymore and we really don't need him, really don't ... same goes for Tonge
I probably wouldn't offer Brown another contract purely because of his age, but anyone suggesting he's past it is way off base. He's fitter than the rest of our team combined and half the time he looks like the only player out there who has a bit of desire and commitment. No he's not the long term answer, and he probably won't play a part for us next season, but the rest of our team could learn a lot from following his example
ok kiwi, I'll rephrase ... Brown is not good enough for Championship level football anymore (because that's where we'll be next season) ... maybe Warnock takes over at a Lge One club next season and Brown gets a nice five year deal there along with Tonge and Kenny
