Comment from McCarthy on the reasons Bournemouth are where they are

"It depends on what investment you get what players you get.”

Clearest comment yet that he is desperate for money in the summer? Reminding Evans that should we go up we'll need to spend? Or just a throwaway statement we shouldn't read anything into?

Ok, theres that aswell, however we invested 'nothing' and have done significantly better than last season. The honest statement seems to fly in the face of that.

The thing is they spent money on players and we didn't and yet we are in a similar position in the league, I admit it would be nice to have a little more investment on transfers just because you pay a million on a player it does not mean you are getting a million pound player if you get my meaning.

ITFC = rubbish with money so who cares

I think he was comparing more the position of Bournemouth and Yeovil (who have spent nothing)

Bournemouth have spent £3,568,400 this season, which is what they needed to do to compete in this division.
They obviously had an inferior team last season, so they have had to buy and invest in players to help them stay up, which is exactly what they have achieved, so fair play to them.
What is also interesting, is that Burnley spent zero (and are promoted) and Brighton also spent nothing (and are close to being in the play offs) - they both also spent less than £2m the season before, so it goes to show it's not how much you spend, but buying clever (which we have never done)
What is also interesting, and which sums us up, is that in 3 seasons, we have only sold one player (Wickham) - the rest we have given away, paid their contracts off or swapped - this is what is crippling us. We need to start investing in young players, or at least players who have the possibility of increasing their market value, and not the dross/mercenaries we have been bringing in.

Not really sure what point you are trying to make here stretchy.?

You are confirming that Bournemouth have spent way more than us (plus wages), also confirming that Burnley & Brighton have like us spent next to nothing (although I would bet my house on the probability that Brightons wage bill is bigger than ours), Brighton are in the same position as us, you could argue that the difference between Burnley and the rest of the promotion chasers are 2 strikers who have hit a rich vein of form at the same time.!

As for paying off the mercenaries, inherited from previous poor managers, not really sure what other option we had, if we could have sold them I am sure we would have. The high wages are now off the books, I am sure we will see the benefit from that over the next 12 months.

As for not buying clever.....Cressy, Didsy, Berra, Chambers are all mistakes then IYO.??

Purchased in different ways but players in none the less, also by different managers but I would argue that MM has got the best out of them.

    Edit;

As for investing in younger players please see.......Academy Cat 1 status........That is what Town are aiming for in the next few months. <ok>

I think you mean when we have a lot of money to spend we have wasted it Stretchy but we have been fairly shrewd when we have restricted transfer funds just look at Goldy Berra Chambers to name a few.

McGoldricks been pretty good for you guys this season, just shows you don't need funds to get good players <ok>

    Money can breed mercenaries.

Money can buy you problems, I would much rather have 1 cole skuse for nowt than 1 grant leadtwat for 2 million quid to **** up every deadball situation.

Did Matty Holland cost us a fortune? did John Wark cost us a fortune? did Mogga or Veno cost a fotune?

To be honest i can't think of one player that cost us a significant amount of money actually come good!

probably the only one though warky, I'd love to see MM be given funds because i trust him like nobody we have had for a very long time, its just its not the be all and end all. more and more clubs will be looking at freebies this summer.

I think you may be right Guru.
As you say, more championship teams will be looking at Bosman's. By not having to pay a transfer fee most clubs will be able to offer a better wage package. Players themselves will see this and more will let their contracts run down so that they can become a free agent, thus helping them secure better wages. Of course, not everybody will stick to FFP rules and I hope sufficient punishments are dealt out to those who flout the rules.

It was so obvious that Barcelona would contest their transfer embargo, enabling them to do business in the next window. This will totally help them prepare for when the embargo truly kicks in and make it a bit of a farce really because they won't be as affected.

Surely every business needs investment? But it needs an experienced, shrewd, professional to make the right deals something we have been sadly lacking in recent times. This meant that in the Magilton, Keane ,and Jewel eras vast amounts of money was squandered on has beens, never wases, and poor quality players ( lee martin ) as just one example, so subsequently they had no resale value in other words a dead loss.
Even though this was MEs fault and his alone I think MM has proven to everyone that he can improve a very ordinary squad and take them to the upper reaches of the division, so come on ME back Mick with some money because its not his or the fans fault you blew your money.

It seems when we spend less money on players we concentrate on actually building/coaching a team and also having that team spirit. Too many clubs try to buy teams rather than evolve them, better players are needed but the best teams evolve.
