John W. Henry has called on UEFA to do something about the clubs he claims are âignoring Financial Fair Playâ regulations. Speaking to the BBC, the Redsâ Principal Owner said; âThe biggest challenge for us has been the ignoring of Financial Fair Play. It makes it very difficult to compete, but by the same token there are many clubs who can't compete at Liverpool's level. So I guess I shouldn't complain that vociferously. âIt's challenging, it makes it difficultâ he continued. âThere are only four Champions League spots, we have at least two teams that seem to have unlimited budgets, so it's challenging." Liverpoolâs match day revenue is dwarfed by the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, and although the expansion of Anfield will help to close that gap when it eventually happens, Henry insists that is not the biggest financial barrier for Liverpool to overcome, itâs the loopholes that other teams are finding in UEFA's FFP regulations. "The stadium was never going to solve the problems that Liverpool was facing economically," Henry explained. "Financial Fair Play is a much bigger solution to the problems Liverpool and other clubs are trying to compete against. That's a much larger issue. "We really don't have Financial Fair Play, or at least people are not abiding by it. If UEFA does something about it and people have to comply, even then the rules are somewhat suspect. I'd love to think that UEFA can do and will do what needs to be done, but we'll see." http://www.liverpoolway.co.uk/index...-to-act-against-clubs-ignoring-ffp-rules-r567 -------------------------- As some rival fans would like us to think that we will fail FFP for 2015/16 season Henry doesn't sound like a man who is too worried
He surely must be confident that we are safe in FFP otherwise he'd be very foolish drawing attention to the whole matter.
Or maybe he knows more than the experts on here Is this you by the way Tobes please log in to view this image causing trouble
Looking between the lines JH saying we can't compete financially is not what we want to hear when we'll obviously need to strengthen next season for CL, and the part about refurbishing Anfield not having a real bearing on our financial clout doesn't make it look like its as much of a priority to him as we would like. Dig deep JH and make your asset great again.
Gently does it PMK, we'll get there Have you seen the apparent leaked pictures by the way? http://injuryleague.com/2014/04/photos-is-this-liverpools-new-vision-for-anfield/
So, when does the thread go up where we can vote on our net spend this summer? My bet is £20 million. Not enough for the depth we need
I think it will be more than that, no signings last window remember. I think we will be pleasantly suprised
If they can do what they did for the Sox, I'd be happy - League winners, stadium re-furb, spend wisely on players ...
They've shown they actually mean business in terms of team success and club improvements without being held to ransom. Nice to see the chairman fly in for the memorial as well, things like that show they are gaining a strong feel for what the club means and represents.
Have we? I wonder what those "loses" consist of? I wonder what happens when you compare that with the value of the club? Rather than taking the piss, he actually raises a good point regarding not only the regulations themselves but also the apparent flaunting of the via via "loopholes" by certain clubs. But then I wouldn't expect any other attitude from you.
Probably, at a guess, because he was a bloke on his own dressed as the grim reaper, complete with scythe - sat in the family enclosure
